EXPERIENCE
Founder and Director, Adel Research, Inc., Los Angeles, CA (January 2007-present) http://www.adelresearch.com
Conducted research to develop Dynamic Region Segmentation Implementation (DRSI) identification and tracking system to provide stable resolution in cluttered image landscapes for defense and security applications. Application to medical imaging, data compression and large scale historical data filtering and analysis were also explored as well as DRSIs real-time multi-processor scalable capabilities. Demonstrated a DSRI-based full-body scanner image processing system designed to improve target imagery detection performance and protect privacy by autonomously detecting and isolating target regions. Developed and delivered proposals for SBIR, STTR and BAA Navy, Airforce, MDA and DARPA solications.
Hyperspectral sensor systems - Researched and developed detection and tracking software to process low resolution (3-5 pixel sized objects) and high resolution multi-channel imagery. Implemented real-time prototype unique-vehicle identification imaging system for Boeing SVS division using HYDICE hyper-spectral satellite imagery provided by the US Army Topographic Engineering Center. Proposals included a DARPA solicitation entitled Unsupervised Feature Identification and Tracking using Hyperspectral Image Data endorsed by Boeing SVS and Headwall Photonics.
EO/IR sensors detection and tracking - Researched and developed autonomous target acquisition and tracking system targeted for Boeing Scan Eagle UAV and similar platforms. Proposals developed included an MDA solicitation entitled Homing Missile Guidance Algorithmic for Agile Kill Vehicle Against Maneuvering Threat endorsed by Lockeed Martin Space Systems.
Sonar based image declutter, object detection, identification and tracking - Developed a proposal to Navy entitled Detection of Near Surface Objects using Acoustic SAS endorsed by Boeing Maritime ISR Systems. Demonstrated DRSIs resolving capabilities in the sonar domain.
Radar systems - detection, clutter removal - Developed a proposal to Navy entitled Improved Clutter Management Technique for High Resolution Radar. Pre-proposal research concentrated on leveraging DRSI technology to resolve near surface objects such as submarine periscopes or sea mines.
Researcher, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA (2003-present) http://www.math.ucla.edu/~bsand
Co-authored five research publications. Conducted research in real-time unsupervised image/data processing techniques including segmentation, detection and tracking techniques. Developed algorithms using PDE based, statistical and pixel clustering methods. Conducted research and development of real-time image processing techniques for bio-mathematic applications including detection and tracking of cell migration and tumor vascularization. Presented algorithm research findings at the SIAM Conference on Image Processing in San Diego in 2008. Supervised graduate student research.
Scientist, TechFinity, Inc. Calabasas, CA, (December 2003-October 2006)
STTR MDA04-T014 Target Scene Resolution and Calibration Using Innovative Region Based Active Contour Techniques - Lead proposal development and served as Principal Investigator on Phase I and Phase II Missile Defense Agency (MDA) contract. Lead team in design and development of C++-based software application designed to identify and distinguish missile vehicle from the exhaust plume using IR sensor imagery. Presented results at the AIAA MDA Conference, Washington D.C, 2006.
AF06-325 Active Contour Techniques for Automated Analysis of Digital X-Ray Images of Aircraft Health - Performed pre-proposal research including implementation of proof-of-concept prototype. Lead proposal development and served as Principal Investigator on Phase I SBIR Air Force proposal.
DARPA STTR ST051-009 Efficient, Collaborative Image Processing and Flow Assignment with Field of View Coverage in Expendable Local Area Sensors in a Tactically Interconnected System - Contributed development of C++ libraries for image data registration and tracking systems which fuse disparate sensor data to provide coherent imagery and object awareness.
Medical Information Network Decision Support (MINDS) - Performed pre-proposal research, collaborated with UCLA Radiation Oncology and UCLA Molecular Pharmacology physician-researchers and contributed to proposal development.
Research Assistant, UCLA, Los Angeles CA,(September1999-December 2002)
Computational and Applied Mathematics Group, Tony Chan Advisor
Performed research in multi-channel image segmentation utilizing active contours and logic operations across channels by minimizing functionals using differential equation approximations. Co-authored three research publications detailing results.
