• The University of Florida in Gainesville

Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering December 2009

Research: Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) on gold nanoparticle coated filter paper

(Relevant Courses: Advanced Process Dynamics and Control, Pharmacokinetics, Material-Self Assembly, Continuum Basis, Mathematical Basis)

Graduate GPA: 3.69/4.00

• The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University

Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences (Cum Laude) May 2007

Major: Chemistry

Thesis Research: The Chemical Analysis of Latent Fingerprints Collected Over Time by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)

Undergraduate GPA: 3.69/4.00 (Dean’s List for four years)

Technical Experience:

• Equipment: Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer, UV-Vis-near-IR Spectrometer, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Raman Spectrometer, Atomic Force Microscope, Electron-beam Evaporator

• Techniques: Hydrogel preparation, Sample preparation for biological analysis, Derivatization of compounds for GC-MS detection, Clean-room training and experience

• Computer Skills: Excel, MATLAB, AutoCAD, HYSYS (UniSim)

Work Experience:

• University of Florida: Master’s Research (Current): August - December 2009

Researching and testing aromatic compounds with strong SERS peaks in order to further develop SERS knowledge. Utilizing the Raman Spectrometer and the Electron-beam Evaporator as well as paper chromatography to develop ways of increasing the reproducibility of SERS experiments conducted on gold nanoparticle coated filter paper.

• The Aerospace Corporation: Temporary Employment: May - August 2009

Reviewed and observed technical work procedures regarding Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite processing at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Documented findings and reported to management and customer. Interfaced with contractors and customer at technical and scheduling meetings.

• The Aerospace Corporation: Summer Internship: May - August 2008

Researched and constructed the framework for the GPS’s future satellite program (GPS IIF) Launch Verification Data Base (LVDB). The LVDB provides a method to document work progress and risk assessment.

• FAU’s Honors College: Thesis research: August 2006 - May 2007

Thesis Title: The Chemical Analysis of Latent Fingerprints Collected Over Time by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. Collected fingerprint samples, extracted the chemical components, reconstituted the components, analyzed the results using the GC-MS, and compared how the results varied over time.

• NASA at the Kennedy Space Center: Summer Internship: May - August 2006

Project Title: Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) Slide and Sample Preparation in Micro Gravity. Served as a research assistant in the Space and Life Sciences Lab; researched and developed ways to prepare slides and samples for a portable AFM in micro gravity.
