PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
English Lecturer
University of North Carolina-Pembroke August 2008-Present
Became the youngest full time member of the English and Theater Department and worked to not only improve academic standards on a university wide level, but also devoted my time to becoming a prominent faculty advocate for diversity. My work as an instructor consistently received overwhelmingly positive evaluations from both my colleagues and my students. During my four years at UNCP, I contributed to several departmental committees and helped shape the composition curriculum so that it better served our students and reflected the goals of the university. This position required me to constantly adapt and come up with creative solutions to problems and challenges posed by the students’ needs.
Independent Contractor
oDesk.com Portfolio Link July 2011-Present
On a scale of one to five, I have received a five start rating from employers who have hired me to complete a variety of different writing assignments. My writing experiences range from creating SEO website content and sales copy, to editing dissertations, to producing more creative articles. In this position, I have successfully adapted to a variety of different writing challenges that are time sensitive and must adhere to specific requirements.
English Instructor
Wake Technical Community College January 2012-Present
Part time composition instructor. Teaching writing in a community college setting is a rewarding opportunity to work with highly motivated, goal oriented students who appreciate a challenge. The students tend to enthusiastically seize the chance to express their voice and learn how to communicate more effectively with the world around them.
English Instructor
Alamance Community College May 2008-July 2008 Taught a summer course, ENG 114, Technical Writing with an emphasis on incorporating technology in the classroom and designing documents in different mediums. Most of my students were former textile workers looking to gain new job skills in order to re-enter the workforce. My task was to prepare them for a variety of different professional experiences, as well as, help them generate resumes and cover letters. Within a couple weeks after the course, many of my students were hired and starting new jobs or promoted after having used the tools they were taught in class.
Developmental Studies Instructor
Central Carolina Community College August 2007-August 2008 Instructor for reading and English students who were classified anywhere from illiterate to an eighth grade reading level. This is considered an “at risk” student population who vary greatly in age, educational experience, and prior knowledge. While the average pass rate for a developmental course is 30%, I was able to achieve a 100% pass rate in several of my classes and a 98% approval rating from my students.
