OBJECTIVE
* Seeking a full-time position in the field of biotechnology, that will utilize my strong research experience in cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
* M.S., Masters Degree in Biotechnology, Polytechnic Institute of NYU, NY, January 2011. CGPA: 3.9/4.0
* B. Tech., Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai, India, June 2008 CGPA: 8.3/10
.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
* Research Assistant, NYU College of Dentistry, NYU - September 2009 to December 2010.
* Studied the interaction between apoptotic and anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins in mammalian cell lines, which resulted in identifying the key steps in the interaction between the Bcl-2 family proteins.
* Cell tissue culture maintenance of FL5.12 cell lines.
* Developed an immuno-detection assay for BAX with flow cytometry to complement immuno-detection assay by Western blotting.
* Developed an ELISA assay for detection of BAX in mammalian cells which detects the conformational change in BAX.
* Research Assistant and Lab Manager, Chemical & Biological Sciences Department, Polytechnic Institute of NYU - February 2009 to August 2009.
* Studied the incorporation of unnatural amino acids in phosphotriesterase enzyme and investigated their activity and stability.
* Managed orders in the laboratory, storage, cataloging and handling of the chemicals that helped run the experiments in the laboratory smoothly and effectively.
* Maintained accounts and expenses of the laboratory that helped the professor keep track of the monthly expenses.
* Research Assistant, Centre for Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai, India - December 2007 to May 2008.
Undergraduate Senior Research Thesis titled "A Comparative Study of Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium tuberculosis"
* Analyzed the genome of M. tuberculosis and M. leprae using Standalone BLAST.
* Identified two previously non-annotated leprae-specific proteins ML0576 and ML1275, having a role in phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase activity and prolipoprotein diacylglyceryl transferase activity in M. leprae.
* Research Internship, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata, India - May 2007 to July 2007 "Regulation of differentiation associated events by cyclic-AMP response regulatory proteins in Leishmania donovani"
* Identified and characterized LdPDEA1, a low-Km, cAMP-specific phopshodiesterase enzyme of the protozoan parasite, Leishmania donavani. The enzyme is involved in regulation of cellular processes by controlling cAMP levels.
* Determined the role of cAMP and phosphodiesterase A in the differentiation processes and polyamine biosynthesis in the life cycle of L. donovani.
* Research Internship, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad, India - May 2006 to July 2006.
* NusG is an important part of the transcription termination complex in Escherichia coli. It interacts with RNA polymerase and Rho factor in regulating the transcription of proteins in E. coli.
* In order to identify the site of interaction of NusG with Rho factor, cysteine derivatives of NusG was cloned using site directed mutagenesis (SDM), which could eventually be made to form a complex with Fe-BABE (p-Bromoacetamidobenzyl-EDTA, iron (III) chelate) used in protein foot-printing and labeling.
LABORATORY SKILL SETS
* Molecular Biology: Gel Electrophoresis, DNA and RNA handling and isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, mutagenesis, bacterial (E. coli) transformation, molecular DNA subcloning, protein expression and purification, Immobilized Metal Affinity Chromatography, FPLC (AKTA) and HPLC.
