Oversaw and managed a 3 million dollar grant/project administered by The Department of Education. In conjunction, directly supervised an Employment/Training Program named CONNECTIONS. The program was created and designed for the estimated 10,000 individuals with disabilities who resided in public housing managed by The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA). Managed a full staff that consisted of caseworkers and community outreach specialists that serviced housing developments and senior citizen housing centers within the city of Chicago. Provided training and counseling for individuals with disabilities and their families. Maintained direct communication with the Department of Education, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the City of Chicago, the Chicago Housing Authority as well as community groups and Service Connector programs located within each individual housing development. Created, maintained and was responsible for client database that tracked pertinent information that was used to created reports for consultants, auditors and Department of Education management/officers.

I.A.M. CARES - Transitional Employment Program(TEP) Project Coordinator

September 1999 – June 2001

Oversaw the transitional job training services for people with disabilities in the hospitality industry for the Transitional Employment Program(TEP). Oversaw and managed the day to day operations for all training at TEP trainings sites: the Swissotel Chicago, Downtown Marriot and Courtyard by Marriot Hotels in downtown Chicago. Responsible for the management of all Transitional Employment Program staff. Was the liaison between the Department of Human Services/Department of Rehabilitation Services (DHS/DORS), the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities and the International Association of Machinists. Maintained working relationships with DHS/DORS and the Chicago Public School System and created linkages within community based organizations and City of Chicago offices to facilitate consistent referral sources for program. Worked directly with and in Human Resources offices of all Hotels to ensure the quality and consistency of the program and its services.

Created relationships with employers that assisted in the transition from training to employment for all clients/students. Worked directly the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities in quality assurance for all programs dealing with individuals with disabilities. Spoke with large organizations, high schools and service providers regarding community empowerment and development through service. Worked directly with the Illinois Department of Employment Security/Once Stop Career Centers for the recruitment and placement of individuals with disabilities into permanent job placement.

Assisted in grant writing and planning activities. Provided motivational speeches in seminars and high school assemblies. Took part in community development meetings and was a member of several community consortia.

I.A.M. CARES - Transitional Employment Specialist

November 1996 – August 1999

Provided transitional job training services for people with disabilities in the hospitality industry for the Transitional Employment Program(TEP). Worked directly with the Department of Human Services/Department of Rehabilitation Services (DHS/DORS) and the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities in the maintenance and operation of Hospitality training programs. Worked with the Illinois Department of Employment Security for the recruitment and placement of individuals with disabilities into permanent job placement.

Responsible for the casework and maintenance of individual client files, payroll and records. Recorded complete service history and all transactional data between service providers, employers and potential employers. Responsible for serving clients and the expenditure of DHS/DORS' monies for the training of clients. Served as the liaison between DHS/DORS, Chicago Public Schools, Human/Social Service Programs, various Community Development Groups, Hotel staff and employers. Ensured and facilitated the client's full transition from school/unemployment to work.

Westside Business Improvement Association - Case Manager

December 1994 – September 1996

Coordinated and implemented the vocational training for youth ages 18-21 on the west side of Chicago. Was responsible for the training and job placement of individuals who completed the JTPA Limited Internship Program. Conducted transferable skills analysis, vocational testing/evaluation, job analysis and job search activities. Coordinated claimant participation in various programs, activities and services designed to prepare them for entry to the workforce. Worked directly with employers to create training curriculum. Provided transportation and distributed stipends for students/trainees.

Counseled and mentored troubled youth and teen parents. Attended town hall and community development meetings in the Lawndale/West Garfield communities of Greater Chicago. Acted as a liaison between agency and The Mayor's Office of Employment/Training and the Office of Planning and Development.
