Smiths Medical is a leading global provider of medical devices for the hospital, emergency, home and specialist environments as well as the veterinary industry. The company employs approximately 7,500 people working together from locations based around the world.

Marketing Communications Manager, 2003-2010

Responsible for all marketing communications activities including yearly department plans, product launch materials, advertising, sales/promotional aids and printed material, internet and intranet management, corporate convention program, sales meetings, sales lead follow-up program, national account and dealer marketing and sales promotion support, expense budgets and analysis.

- Successfully executed over 20 marketing/sales plans relevant to current product maintenance and new product launches. Activities encompassed planning, coordination and implementation activities for all advertising, promotion, collateral materials/programs, videos, events, etc. Net result: Increased company presence and image in the marketplace as well as increased sales while keeping within the projected expense parameters.

- Developed Marketing Communications procedures and policies for handling project requests, trade show attendance, press release submissions and project expense tracking. Net result: Improved department efficiency and consistency.

- Responsible for planning and coordinating national and regional sales meetings, including site selection/negotiation, program logistics, agenda development and on-site management. Net result: Cost effective, professional and efficiently run meetings and events.

- Assimilated the veterinary marketing support staff into the medical marketing communications area and developed procedures and policies for sales and marketing activities to mirror those being followed on the medical side of the business. Marketing Manager, 1993-2003

- Produced 13 new product market plans and subsequent product launches, including gathering information from various departments and outside sources prior to writing the market plan and developing and producing the needed support materials. Net result: An increase of over 30% in sales.

- Developed, produced and place 30 new ads for both new and current products. Net result: Increased corporate name recognition and the consistent receipt of an average of 300+ sales leads each month which were disbursed to field sales personnel and tracked to closure.

- Upgraded the annual National Sales Meeting to include team building activities, hands-on workshop sessions, an awards dinner and a motivating open and close for the meeting. Net result: Sales personnel left the meeting feeling motivated and knowledgeable.

- Increased and upgraded the trade show program from attendance at 4 national shows per year to over 15, including researching the most appropriate shows to attend for the targeted markets, preparing the expense budget for each, selecting the most appropriate attendees to work the booth, purchasing exhibit booth properties and designing and producing graphics.

- Updated the appearance and information of all printed selling pieces. Net result: A more professional corporate image and company name recognition in the marketplace.

- Streamlined and updated price lists. Net result: Created price lists consistent in appearance, product descriptions and pricing while significantly reducing the number available for use.
