Managed client relations for this specialty HR firm providing workers’ compensation claims management, retrospective rating programs and safety for nearly 4,000 WA state-insured (L&I) companies. Worked closely with companies on return-to-work and other issues to control their workers’ compensation costs.
Built a retrospective rating program to over $600,000 in client company L&I premiums with sizeable refunds. Added significantly to the growth of 6 other retro programs.
Reached company goal for enlisting qualified, new clients. Provided HR coaching and gave presentations to member Associations.

Developed and managed the new HR department for this 350 employee, multi-state service company. Established drug testing and formal recruiting procedures, hired hourly and professional employees, trained supervisors, wrote the employee handbook. Managed benefits, UI, other generalist duties. Incorporated new HRIS.
ITT Rayonier, Inc. Regional then Corporate HR Administrator 1977-1984 Seattle, WA
HR Director for this wood-products company of 10,000 employees in 9 states. Key team member in job design, staffing and training at two new facilities. Traveled 60%.
Designed and implemented performance review systems, management and supervisor training, succession planning, recruitment, multi-skilled cross training for mill maintenance workers, designed job descriptions and safety procedures for a new sawmill, planned and coached locations on lay-offs and instituted outplacement programs. Advised HR location managers at 18 business sites, hired and managed over 15 training consultants per year, supervised two on-staff trainers.
Upon hire, established EEO/AAP compliance and turned around the EEOC “show cause” threat. Wrote AAP’s for all locations and passed all audits as well as investigated employee complaints, prepared responses and won all discrimination cases filed.
