Social Service Caseworker

SUMMARY

I have a Bachelors Degree in Applied Behavioral Science through Penn State University I have 11 years experience working with children and with adults. I started my career working for Child Development as a Family Service Advocate . My job was to recruit families for their Head Start program and to make referrals to outside agencies. I also was a Therapeutic Support Staff worker for two agencies( Pottsville Behavioral Counseling and Schuylkill Mountain Center). I counseled children with behavioral problems. I went on to work for Service Access and Management as an Intensive Case Worker/Resource Coordinator. I monitored children with mental health issues on a monthly basis. I participated in the on call procedure. My last place of employment was Prospectus Berco. My job title was Program Supervisor. I supervised four staff members in a room with sixteen disabled adults. The staff's responsibility was to follow through each individual's service plan. My responsibility was to write up the service plans and to make sure the plans were completed.

Program Supervisor - 2007 to 2008

I worked at Prospectus Berco as a Program Supervisor.I wrote up treatment plans for sixteen disabled adults The staff's responsibility was to make sure the treatment plans were followed through. I also kept families and outside agencies updated on the individual's progress.

* My biggest achievement with Prospectus Berco was encouraging an hesitant individual to participate in an activity.

* As a Program Supervisor, I needed to be patient and understanding especially of the individuals needs and diagnosis.

* Another accomplishment was to meet with families of the individuals and to encourage them to place their loved ones in this group setting.

Intensive Case Worker/Resource Coordinator - 2001 to 2007

I worked as an Intensive Case worker at Sch.County Mental Health/Mental Retardation. I monitored children with mental health issues. When there was a concern, their family or school would contact me. I would either talk them down or meet them at the Psychiatric Unit. I switched positions when Service Access and Management took over for the county.As a Resource Coordinator, I seen the children with a mental health diagnosis, monthly or when there was a concern. I also participated in treatment plan meeting and their on call.

* My most memorable achievement was talking a young girl out of killing herself. When she called the on call service, I arrived immediately. She already cut herself approximately fifty times. I accompanied her to the hospital and she received proper treatment.

* The skills needed to work with the mentally ill are patience, understanding, and consideration

* Another achievement was when the state would come in to check the files, my supervisor would give the state worker, the files I have worked on throughout the year.

Therapeutic Support Staff worker - 2000 to 2001

Schuylkill Mountain Center, Shenandoah,PA

As a TSS worker, I counseled children with behavioral issues. I read treatment plans written by the mobile therapist for each child and followed through with each plan.

* The biggest achievement was working with a child and having their mother and father , thank you, for having a problem resolved.

* The skills needed for a TSS to be successful is understanding of the child's diagnosis, awareness of the families dynamics, and to be open-minded. Never choose the child's side or parent's side. A TSS must work with the entire family and work with the information given to you.

* Another accomplishment was working with the parents of the child and the school to make sure, everyone was updated on how the child was doing in the home and school settings.

Family Service Advocate - 1997 to 1999

As a Family Service Advocate, I recruited families into their Head Start program. I made school and home visits and kept the families and teachers updated on how the child is doing in the other setting. I made referrals to outside agencies and participated in monthly meetings.

* My biggest achievement with Child Development was helping out of Family Service Advocates when they had the summer off.I completed their opening paperwork for each child in their centers, as well, as mine.

* The skills needed for this agency is good communication skills and organizational skills.

* Another accomplishment was getting each child on the waiting list into the Head Start Center
