EDUCATION
Kendall School of Design - 1984 Graduate with a BFA in Graphic Design. Major studies included: graphic design, advertising layout and keylining. With minor studies in photography, illustration and TV production.
Creston High School - 1980 Graduate where I completed all the basic courses and also completed a two year commercial art program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Spartan Stores Graphic Services - March 2006 to March 2010 - After 6 months of helping out the Design department I was hired in as a full time designer. My main account was the designing of the D&W grocery flyer. In preparing these files I was required to use Windows based programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Connect-3. It was my
responsiblity to design the D&W ad from beging to end, at times working with the photography,typesetting and the pre-press departments to meet specific deadlines weekly.
Spartan Stores Graphic Services - July 1996 to May 2006 - My position involved preparing files for final output to plate through a Scitex brisque PC computer which communicates to a Dolev imagesetter. In preparing these files I am required to use programs on the Macintosh
computer such as InDesign, Quark X-Press, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Preps. I worked daily doing sheet-fed and also web work. In the last six months my accoutibilities have included helping out in the Design deptartment. These duties include some designing of weekly grocery ads, placing the graphics, and type corrections. In the past two years I have
helped in the Sign Shop also. This involved the design and printing of window signs and banners for our retail stores.
Jenison Printing/Advance Newspaper - September 1989 to July 1996 -My position was a 4-color Lithographer working in all phases of pre-press from camera work to color separation, to plating for sheet fed and web presses. Other duties included scheduling jobs, working with
sales people and customers, ordering supplies, maintenance on machinery from horizontal camera to plate processor and organization of the Pre-Press Department.
Jenison Printing/Advance Newspaper - April 1987 to September 1989 -My position was a full time in-house Commercial Artist where I designed, keylined and produced layouts for jobs ranging from major grocery/retail tabloids and coupon booklets to newsletters and business forms and cards. Other duties included the general supervision of the Art Department.
Diocesan Publications - August 1984 to April 1997 - My position was a full time Artist/Keyliner where I keylined weekly church bulletins and the ads that appear on the back. Other duties included some designing of bulletin covers, spacing type and working as a Camera/Stripper fill in.
Other Facts
While working in the Composition Department at Jenison Printing I was put in charge as the Lead Person where my abilities and leadership skills lead me to be promoted to Manager of the Pre-Press Department. Since my years at Spartan Stores, I have accomplished training on the Macintosh and PC Computers using various software to design and send electronic files for final output. Having full knowledge of the printing concept, I feel that I am capable to produce quality product for Advertising Media.
