Experience
Manager Anatomic Pathology Quest-AmeriPath, Henderson, NC. Direct the Histology and Cytology operation of a local hospital with 14 staff and two Pathologists. I perform all gross of surgical specimens, as well as assist with FNA’s, and Frozen Sections. I serve as the safety officer, compliance officer, sales rep, QA/QC officer, Records management officer, I over see logistics, and HR. I am proficient with all regulatory agencies and regulation. I would like to be a part of a larger operation.
Supervisor of Biochemical Genetics, labcorp CMBP (March 2008 to Sept 2010). Direct supervisor of 14 staff in a lab that performs over 1 million tests per year. Responsible for hiring, training, SOP’s, QA/QC. Upon taking the position the turn around time for specimen through put went from 73% to 99% and maintained the 99% ongoing. I am proficient in PCR, HPLC, LC, and the use of all laboratory equipment.
2nd shift Supervisor II of Infectious Disease Department, Labcorp CMBP (September 2006 to May 2009) Supervise the activities of 42 technologist according to policies and procedures. I was responsible for hiring, evaluation and training employees. Maintain compliance with quality and safety at all times; effectively communicate with all direct reports all issues of the department. Develop and implement new technology into our current methods. Maintain accrediting requirements of national and state agencies (CAP, NYS, FDA, CLIA, ASCLD and other). Insure department is inline with mission of Labcorp and clients need and issues are resolved timely.
Supervisor Managed Care Operations & Analysis (May 2005 – September 2006). Division of Corporate Billing Labcorp, Burlington, NC. I coordinate a variety of financial analyses relating to billing and collections and reimbursement analysis. Direct the work with the front-end denials to acquire reimbursement for testing performed. Supervised 23 direct reports and support 11analyst in payer reimbursement denial issues. I was responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, coaching and mentoring employees. Evaluated procedures and practices in the processing and re-submission of denials from carriers. Implement improved recommendations or new procedures, processes and monitor production. Compile financial data latter used for proxy statements and report to share holders.
Shift Supervisor Duke University Health Systems (November 2004 – May 2005). Performed hospital and outreach pathology specimens in the Franklin Lab supporting Duke University Health Services. Supervised employees, directed workflow, prepared schedules, resolved problems. Duties included maintaining supplies, QA of slides, blocks, train staff and schedule employees and maintain equipment. Assured specimens and reports were delivered on time via courier network. Cut biopsy, muscle and nerve, bone marrow BX and skin tissues. Perform special stains and immunohistochemisty, Flow Cytometry, PCR, FISH and Cytology stains. I ensured timely completion of work.
Recalled Naval Reservist to Operation Iraqi Freedom in Kuwait and Iraq December 2003 – November 2004. I provided medical support for 356-member explosives unit. Perform as field EMT-P, ACLS, TCCC, Field medical technician, Independent Duty Corpsman.
Manager of Laboratory Operation Tampa Pathology (February 2002- December 2003). Managed all aspects of operation, outreach, development, sales, insurance contracts, human resources (76 employees), payroll, compliance, insurance, safety, environmental waste, subcontract employees, satellite laboratory issues (office in Delray FL, Lecanto FL), lease and facilities . Developed and implemented a mobile frozen sections van. Implemented immunohistochemisty and directed and taught with the Tampa Pathology School of Histology that is NAACLS based.
Manager of Tampa Largo Center AmeriPath-Derrick (March 2000 – January 2002). Directed the operation of anatomic pathology laboratory and 7 Satellite facilities. Proficient in knowledge of GCP/GLP, CLIA, CAP, JCHO, OSHA, Florida Department of Health laws and standards. ASCP, AAPA and Florida Department of health certified at supervisor level. Performed bench duties in histology, prepared fluid cytology specimens, prepare Thinpreps, stain histology slides, cytology slides, cut, stained and QA/QC immunohistochemisty slides. I developed in accordance with NAACLS and FL Department of adult education a Histology training program (location Orlando, FL). Set up and directed fleet of 14 couriers with over 340 daily sites to visit.
Anatomic Pathology Lab Manager/Pathology Assistant (June 1998-March 2000) AmeriPath Consulting Pathology Services North Carolina and Virginia operation for AmeriPath. I directed the development of a growing new acquisition for AmeriPath. Directed 10 full time staff members, supporting 4 pathologist and 5 hospital labs. Developed the operations into a facility with no CAP deficiencies, and 250% growth. Expanded service from one lab hospital based to five hospitals and several outpatient clients. I developed the sales department and courier outreach system and Implemented a new LIS system for laboratory operations. Grossed all surgical specimens delivered to laboratory, performed all Cytology prep Gyn and Non Gyn, Thinprep and cyto-spin, Performed all special Stains and immunohistochemical stains as well as PAP stains. Promoted to Florida, for outstanding performance and need for the Florida west coast to grow in operation for AmeriPath Derrick.
Histotechnologist 2nd shift, Pathology Assistant (May 1996- June 1999) Rex Hospital pathology- Anatomic Laboratory. Perform and assist with gross dissection and routine processing of tissue specimens. Performed all routine histology job duties, gross, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry worked all Non Gyn specimen. Worked independent on 2nd shift to attend college classed during day. Performed routine maintenance and troubleshooting of department equipment and other quality control procedures and assist sections supervisor in monitoring quality assurance activities in the department. Reason for leaving offered management position with AmeriPath, Inc.
Histotechnolotist/ Pathology assistant (December 1995 – March 1997) Wake Medical Center- Pathology Laboratory. Performed routine histology job duties cutting, special stains, IHC (immunohistochemistry) and grossing of surgical specimens. Performed medical examiner casework for North Carolina Medical Examiner office Chapel Hill, NC. Worked with SBI, and local law enforcement in criminal cases, in the collection of evidence. I completed requirement to join American association of pathology assistance (AAPA). I continued to work weekends May 96-March 97.
Retired Navy Chief Hospital Corpsman United States Navy (January 1989 - October 2012) 89-92 Primary Special Operations independent Duty Corpsman (HM-8492), work in laboratory setting histology (HM-8506), cytology prep, hematology, and assist in autopsies along with administration while not on operations. I have had many leadership positions through my career in the Navy. I was selected Naval Reservist of Year For 2005, Navy Reserve Center Raleigh NC. Retired with rank of Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-7).
