SUMMARY

Engineer with a strong chemistry background and a Masters degree in Polymers is seeking a technical position that will allow independent thought to complement team goals. I have the knowledge, ability, personality, and skills to understand and convey technical ideals to non-technical customers.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Corning Incorporated, Wilmington, NC July 07 – Feb. 09

Global Manufacture and Distributor of Optical Fiber

Process Engineer II

Typical day involved monitoring control charts for machine performance, developing/completing experiments to acquire data, and responding to high priority production issues.

• Evaluation and implementation of Secondary Coating Scale-up batch, Analysis of impact of coating on process attributes. Approved coating, resulting in no manufacturing impact and cost reduction of two dollars per kilogram purchased.

• Led team that found root cause and implemented novel quality architecture to address process issue. As result of process improvements, downtime due to primary coating contamination was eliminated.

• Improved process efficiency through innovation of fiber cooling process that was completed at minimal cost. Reduced helium consumption in my community by 45% and reduced variability in primary coating diameter.

• Led team that was tasked with phase III development of low cost coating. Solved processing issues and retrofitted existing machinery to accommodated novel process. (I was awarded “Certificate of Excellence” for completion of this project)

• Obtained Status of Subject Matter Expert (SME) for attribute assigned to me by department head. Reduced non-conformities by 20% and all but eliminated false troubleshooting that was due to incorrect limits on the control chart.

Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia Aug. 05 – July 07

Graduate Research Assistant

Research in the field of UV cured polymer resins via development, synthesis, and characterization of an organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposite for use in stereolithography manufacturing.

• Grafted chemical groups onto polymer backbone via condensation reaction.

• Physical analysis of raw material for use as reference.

• Thermal analysis of samples and references.

• Preparation of chemical and equipment for wet chemistry

• Characterized cured sample which exhibited improved toughness and lower moisture uptake.

Wellington Cordage, LLC, Madison, Georgia May 03 – Aug. 05

Contract Engineer

Typical day comprised of calculating tensile strength of permutations on rope/narrow webbing design and writing technical specification on the design and structure of different individual products within a given family.

• Engineered physical properties for narrow webbing & rope to meet market

standards while reducing unit cost.

• Established standard format for technical manuscripts to be used by outsourced manufacturing facility which expedited information transference.

• Reviewed master specs for areas of ambiguity or inconsistency within a product family and submitted proposed revisions that supplanted some existent protocols.

• Developed internal quality mechanism that reduced the averaged number of errors on submitted specifications, thus reducing total review time.

• Revised existent specifications with novel approaches according to available materials and machinery

• Indoctrinated new members into the team concept of “Spec. Central Task Group.”
