EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

M.S. Materials Engineering, University of Houston GPA: 3.57/4 August 2008 – Dec 2010

B.Tech. Chemical Engineering, NITK Suratkal, India August 2004 – May 2008

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

MANUFACTURING QUALITY ENGINEER, SUPERPOWER INC. July 2011-present

- Collaborated with process engineers to install an on-line roughness measurement tool in a roll-to-roll electro-polishing system. Improved data collection and established better quality control on production line by monitoring roughness in the order of nanometers.

- Conducted workshops with suppliers to gather requirements for an Atomic Force Microscope to replace an obsolete system. Improved operator efficiency by 60%.

- Prepared standard operating procedures, created project plans and reported the progress and milestone results to the management.

- Collaborated with Quality leaders to develop 8D to address Ic variability issue.

- Lead technicians in performing quality control measurements using various analytical characterization tools to measure chemical composition, optical properties, and structural properties.

- Determined root cause for tape failure by analyzing samples using OM, SEM, XRD, process parameters, visual inspection data and critical current data.

- Established 5S principles at the Quality Control lab.

RESEARCHER, TEXAS CENTER FOR SUPERCONDUCTIVITY (TCSUH), UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON

Jan 2011- June 2011

- Member of the safety committee at TcSUH.

- Fabricated epitaxial thin film oxides, metals and semiconductors on flexible metal substrates using reel-to-reel radio frequency magnetron sputtering system.

- Trained graduate students on reel-to-reel RF sputtering, zone melting and various analytical tools.

- Tutored graduate and undergraduate students on the principle, applications, operation of AFM.

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT, DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGG., UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON (SUPERVISOR: DR. VENKAT SELVAMANICKAM) Dec 2008 – Dec 2010

- Optimized deposition conditions for the epitaxial growth of various oxides (CeO2, MgO, LaMnO3, SrTiO3, BaTiO3, Gd2O3, Y2O3, Bi2O3, NiO) and metals/semiconductors (Ni, Nb, Ag, Ge, Si) on flexible substrates by reel-to-reel magnetron sputtering.

- Analyzed and characterized samples using SEM, AFM, XRD, HRXRD, Dektak Profilometer, Pole figure measurements.

- Presented research titled ‘Germanium thin film on flexible, randomly textured metal substrates’ at the Texas Center for Superconductivity Student Symposium Dec’09.

MASTERS’ THESIS – BIAXIALLY TEXTURED GERMANIUM THIN FILMS ON FLEXIBLE METAL SUBSTRATES BY RADIO FREQUENCY SPUTTERING Dec 2010

- Successfully developed single-crystalline like epitaxial germanium thin films for the first time on inexpensive metal substrates. These substrates have major application in fabricating flexible, low cost GaAs solar cells with high efficiency.

ENGINEERING INTERN AT HARITA NTI. June 2007 – August 2007

PERFORMANCE-COST ANALYSIS OF BIODEGRADABLE FILMS

- Determined properties of the film such as Young’s Modulus, % Elongation, Density, Dart Impact Resistance etc.

- Effectively analyzed the variation in properties with the thickness of the film and filler content.

- Established the trend in the variation of the properties and cost of the film, with respect to the thickness by analyzing the trade-off between performance and cost. This data is used by the company to manufacture customer/application-based biodegradable films at reasonable cost.
