MARINE BIOLOGY/ MARINE RESOURCES MANAGMENT INTERNSHIPS
• Boater Waste Education Campaign Intern, Galveston Bay Foundation, Webster, Texas. January 2011-September 2011
Tasks included attending various events to maintain the GBF booth, conducted presentations to various groups about GBF and boater waste, distributed GBF coasters, worked with yacht brokers and marinas to educate them about boater waste issues, designed suitable ‘Pet Waste Stations’ to implement them in local marinas, attended meetings with marina representatives along with the TCEQ, attended/member of the boater waste committee, designed the new Dockwalker Program, designed boater waste and educational pamphlets, attended and worked at most GBF events, assisted Sea Grant with Clean Marina certifications, and other various tasks involving boat waste.
• Special Agent Assistant, NOAA- Department of Law Enforcement Southeast Division, Galveston, Texas. June 2009- August 2009
Tasks included assisting agents in actual investigations involving the Lacey Act, MMPA, MFSCA, and ESA violations under the supervision of Special Agent and Federal Game Warden Matt Clark.
• Sea Turtle Patroller, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas. May 2008- July 2009
Tasks included patrolling and documenting designated Galveston/ Bolivar beaches for sea turtles, tracks, and/or nests, tagging, and the releasing of turtles.
ADDITIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE
• Substitute Teacher for Galveston Independent School District, Galveston, Texas. August 2011-May 2012
Substitute for all grade levels in the Galveston Independent School District. A Call-back substitute for Mr. Brown’s outdoor science classroom at L.A. Morgan Elementary where care for a variety of animals, garden beds, a greenhouse and various plant species is required in addition to educating classes about the Galveston Bay ecosystem.
VOLUNTEER WORK
• Docent, Historical Homes Tour 2011, 2012, Galveston, Texas. May 2011, 2012.
Presented viewers the basic information for the 1876 Burr Home, the poster home, of the Galveston Island Historic Homes Tour in 2011. In the 2012 tour, was a docent to the 1301 Market Street Runge House.
• Volunteer Laboratory Researcher, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas. September 2009- December 2009.
Tasks included identifying and sorting Gulf of Mexico fish larvae of special interest in Dr. Rooker’s (Texas A&M Marine Ecology professor) laboratory. After sorting is complete, PCR techniques were applied for species identification of the larvae.
• Volunteer Researcher, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas. Fall 2007.
Volunteered to conduct a plankton tow in Offatt’s Bayou in order to determine if harmful algae blooms are present in Galveston Bay for Dr. Quigg’s laboratory.
• SeaAggie Preview, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas. Fall 2005
Tasks included showing families around the campus, supplying room and board for visiting prospective students, and participating in Midnight Yell.
PROJECTS
• Environmental and Economic Analysis of the Panama Canal Upgrade on Galveston Bay, Galveston, Texas. Spring 2012.
A group OPED and presentation about the environmental and economic impacts from the expansion of the Panama Canal and Post-Panamax vessels to the Galveston Bay Ports.
• NEPA- A Voice for Public Opinion, NEPA- Comparative Analysis of NEPA vs. other SEPAs- Presentations and Research, Galveston, Texas. Fall 2011.
The two NEPA presentations were based on my research comparing NEPA to other State’s Environmental Policy Acts (SEPAs) and in addition, the role of public opinion within the NEPA process.

Edited the Environmental Law Presentations for the 2011 fall classes under the supervision of Dr. VonZharen at Texas A&M University at Galveston.
• PowerPoint Module on Environmental Management Strategies for Fisheries Management, Galveston, Texas. April, 2011.
The presentation is an overview of various fisheries management along the Gulf Coast that implements Environmental Management Strategies.
• GIS Project and Presentation over Bacterial Loading into Copano Bay, Texas. April, 2011.
Produced models of bacterial loading into Copano Bay via watersheds based on runoff and land usage. The models were created using ArcGIS software.
• Eco-analysis of Offatts Bayou, Galveston, Texas. April 6, 2011.
An analysis of the nutrients, plankton, zooplankton, benthic, and fish diversity of Offatts Bayou is to be conducted next month. This is to evaluate the productivity and health of the body of water.
• Pelican Island Terminal Proposal Poster, Galveston, Texas. November 15-16, 2010.
Presented poster on “Proposed Methods to Solve Container Traffic on and off of Pelican Island” and attended the 5th National Conference on Coastal Estuarine Habitat Restoration on Galveston Island.
• Power Point Module on Marina Water Quality, Galveston, Texas. November, 2010.
The PowerPoint presentation is an overview of laws and regulations surrounding boat pollution and sewage. It looks into the dynamics of water quality in marinas and ways to prevent the degradation of water in marinas.
