Dear Hiring Manager;

I am very interested in a full time position with your organization. I was recently deployed to the Gulf but because there was no oil coming to the shore they prematurely sent us home. I have extensive experience in supervision and management. I received most of my experience while employed with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department and City of High Point Police Department. During my employment with the sheriff’s department I held the rank of Sergeant and acting Lieutenant. Some of my responsibilities included scheduling officers, evaluation of officers, recommending pay raises, recommending disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. I supervised investigations initiated on my patrol shift and was responsible for specific internal investigations. I conducted training, assisted in planning for events such as disaster training and presidential visits. I was on interviewing panels for hiring new employees and on the Committee for National Accreditation. I was the senior leader (Advisor) for the Law Enforcement Officers Explorer Post. One of my best accomplishments was the ability to raise the productivity level of my shift 4 times that of the department average. The highest category being the arrests made for criminal investigations. I enjoyed my service with the sheriff’s department until I left to eventually become the manager of Carolina Protection and Investigations.

My experience in law enforcement and my education plus hands on training in management has taught me a great deal in team leadership and adapting to any situation. Some of my strongest points are:

• I have never missed a day of work unless it was scheduled

• I have been loyal to my job and have held the same job for long periods of time.

• I am always early for work

• I am tenacious in accomplishing all tasks

• I get along with most people

• I am a team leader

• I am caring about others and a good listener

• I can make quick decisions without hesitation or when applicable I listen to others when decisions I make will affect them.

• I am a learner and can adapt to any situation or career change.

While I managed Carolina Protection & Investigations I was responsible for the entire operation of the company. I hired and fired employees, obtained security contracts and conducted investigations. Two of my most important clients were High Point Bank and Trust and Fox News. With High Point Bank and Trust we were not only responsible for security of several branches but we had to work with the bank on disaster planning. With Fox News we were responsible for security of the premises. We investigated all threats or suspicious activity directed towards their female news anchors. One of the best responsibilities we had with Fox News was to assist their news anchors with their very popular investigative program. Carolina Protection sold their contracts to another company in 2000 when I started my self employment.

Your consideration will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mike Korn

Dear Hiring Manager

To Whom It May Concern:

It has been my pleasure to personally know and work with Sgt. Mike Korn. I met Mike when he transferred from High Point Police Department to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department. At that time the sheriff’s department was trying to recruit some good experienced officers and Mike Korn had a very good reputation. As I got to know Mike over the years I found him to be a very professional, caring, honest officer as well as a good family man, father and husband.

I was a sergeant in-charge of the major crimes unit. During my time in the major crimes unit Mike often came us with good information and would always ask advice on cases he was working on. For being new with the sheriff’s department it was obvious he knew how to listen to people and come up with helpful information. Mike Korn was exceptional in the way he wrote reports and cleared cases which the detective division enjoyed. Most officers on the department took the role of report writers but Mike new the importance of conducting quick investigations and bringing closure to victims. About a year later there was a testing procedure put in place by Sheriff Walter Burch. Mike Korn made sergeant by being the top candidate in the testing procedure and was assigned as a supervisor to a patrol shift. I gradually started seeing change on the shift he supervised by seeing more arrests made and cases cleared. I was later promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to patrol division. Even though we were on opposite shifts Mike and I worked closely together. I saw his concern for helping officers on his shift and other shifts long after other supervisors went home. Later during department restructuring I personally requested Sgt. Korn to be transferred to my shift. With Sgt Korn’s leadership we were able to raise productivity 4 times the patrol division average. Sgt Korn did not hesitate to make important decisions and when applicable include team members in other decision making processes.
