Project: Studying the effect of Mitochondrial Targeted antioxidants on Hepatocellular carcinoma
Research Assistant, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Texas
Department of Advanced Imaging Research center, Jan 2010 – Aug 2011
Project: Developing reconstituted Low density lipoproteins with Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA - an omega 3 fatty acid) for use as a therapeutic agent for Hepatocellular cancer
Experiments conducted
• Isolated lipoproteins from human plasma, characterizing the Low density lipoproteins by biochemical assays
• Reconstituted Low Density Lipoproteins with Omega-3 fatty acids
• Cultured primary hepatocytes and hepatic carcinoma cell lines
• Conducted cell proliferation assays in tumor and normal hepatic cell lines using the LDL-DHA reconstituted molecule
• Developed orthotropic tumor models in mice and rats to evaluate the invivo effects of LDL-DHA
• Conducted biodistibution studies in mouse and LDL receptor expression/binding studies
• Performed Confocal microscopy based assays to study omega-3 fatty acid induced lipid peroxidation in cells and tissues
Research Intern, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), India, Dec 2007 – April 2008
Project: Phytoremediation of Chromium from tannery effluent polluted lands
• Identified two plant species namely Brassica Juncea and Glycine Max Merr capable of enhanced uptake and translocation of chromium from tannery effluent polluted lands
• Studied the effect of chelators on enhancement of plant chromium uptake
• Performed spectrophotometric analysis of chromium content in plant roots and shoots following growth in high chromium containing soil
• Conducted field trials in different parts of South India
Research Volunteer, Tuberculosis Research Center (TRC), India, May 2007- Aug 2007
• Performed ELISA assays, Immunoassays
