Representative Accomplishments
Revamped key functional organization. Corporate accounting department for national insurance firm was seriously underperforming. Created SMART goals to focus teamwork/cross-training and improved accuracy 20%, reducing monthly close times by 35-40% in the process. Dramatically boosted quality and quantity of internal reporting and external audit results.
Averted major compliance problem with large account. $100,000,000+ trust for which company has third-party fiduciary responsibility had received an unacceptable audit report identifying problems requiring immediate attention as I came on board. Gained understanding of issues, directed staff in successful resolution and ensured application of Best Practices going forward. Passed most recent audit with flying colors, mitigating any customer problems.
Mitigated impact of product liability lawsuit, secured less-costly settlement to preserve client’s industry reputation. Client, a heavy equipment reseller, was sued by commercial contractor after crane collapsed on job site and caused significant property damage. Obtained sufficient proof of plaintiff’s negligence to negotiate a favorable settlement that also enabled client to avoid a costly, reputation-damaging trial.
Significantly enhanced corporate accounting and inventory control processes, boosting profits/lowering costs for $300M Country Pride Foods (CPF). Identified opportunity to cut operating and tax expenses by installing dual accrual/cash-basis accounting system, capitalizing on key tax incentives and boosting profits 8%. Initiated standard product coding and systematic internal audit programs, reducing shrinkage almost 15% per year.
Introduced standard/automated accounting and reporting systems, driving substantial CPF profitability increase. Capital expansion budget for $48M regional operation lacked adequate controls, producing significant YOY cost overruns. Initiated ongoing training program to ensure staff competency on new systems. Achieved accurate and timely reporting/analysis, virtually eliminating budget overruns. Recognized by HQ when system was adopted company-wide.
