PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
CBT Technology, Randolph, MA 11/11 – 1/2012
Contract Mechanical Engineer
Responsible for converting various types of CAD data to company standards and designing extrusion profiles for EEE 1110.1 applications. Created packaging designs and lineal extrusion dies which included creating solid models of parts and assemblies. Create fabrication and assembly drawings, bills of materials and shop orders/routings using EPICOR 2000 ERP system.
GENERAL DYNAMICS, Taunton, MA 2002 – 6/2011
Associate Engineer, Senior
Mechanical Engineer responsible for concept to production packaging design for various Department of Defense directives including the Broadband Network, Single Shelter Switch, and Warfighter Information Network – Tactical.
• Designed/Drafted conceptual designs for power bays, power/signal entry panels, alarm switches, circuit breaker panels, and integrated COTS equipment for over 100 military custom communication vehicles scheduled for full rate production.
• Served as lead mechanical engineer point of contact during build phase for Warfighter Information Network - Tactical. Provided engineering support to assemblers and technicians on the operations floor, saving the company $100,000 in potential re-work costs.
• Mentored junior mechanical engineers on company and industry standard best practices.
• Designed per DoD, a Single Shelter Switch (SSS) and Broadband Switch (BBN) which included power/signal entry panels, alarm, lighting, circuit breaker panels, and racked commercial equipment for over 25 manned mobile communication shelters for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Provided engineering support to assemblers and technicians on the operations floor.
• Worked with technical publications/illustrators group creating manuals and order guides for replacement parts. Using Adobe Illustrator to transform 3D CAD models to 2D page layouts. This effort saved thousands of dollars by using exploded mechanical assemblies.
• WILLIAM BEARD PAGE TWO
BOSE CORPORATION, Framingham, MA 2001
Mechanical Designer
Contract employee working with project engineers helping develop jig fixtures to measure and inspect
injection molded components for measurement of critical dimensions. Also created critical dimension drawings.
• Created and documented fixturing to verify injection molds were to company specification.
• Partnered with design team to get products to market.
TELCO SYSTEMS, Norwood, MA 1989 - 2001
Mechanical Designer
Responsible for development of mechanical enclosures, circuit card modules and back-plane designs
for telecommunications equipment. Phases of development ranged from conceptual design feasibilities
through production. Products were developed on SDRCs 3D solid modeling software. Designs include
generation of 3D CAD models, assembly models, electronic components, circuit card outlines, back
planes, detail drawings, bills of material, and requirements documentation. Led cross-functional design
reviews. Systems were designed and tested to be compliant with UL1459, FCC Part 15 and 68, and
Bellcore Telecommunication’s requirements such as office and earthquake vibration, electromagnet
immunity and susceptibility. Computer applications and expertise include SDRC I-DEAS Master
Series (over 60,000 hrs. experience), FrameMaker, MANMAN and Solaris UNIX operating system,
Microsoft Office and Windows.
• Led successful effort to redesign and qualify 12 existing products for U.L. 1459 and C.S.A. 22.2 safety requirement. This project was finished in a timely manner and was critical for sales to six regional Bell operating companies such as Southwest Bell, Verizon, Bell South, Ameritech, Pac Bell and many others.
• Led successful effort to qualify 14 existing products for Bellcore’s NEBS Zone 4 Office and Earthquake vibration. Wrote test plan and results. This effort was critical for sale of existing products to Pacific Bell’s central 0ffice and customer premise equipment.
• Managed qualified companies products for FCC Part 15 Class A & B.
• Trained using Fluents IcePak 3D thermal analysis software. Used software to conduct thermal analysis of new and existing product lines. Worked with hardware engineers laying out circuit cards and providing solutions and alternate designs for improved cooling of power supplies, BGAs, FPGAs and critical electronic components.
