Clinical Residency
Year-in-Residency Overview
Doctoral students are enrolled in Year-in Residency programs which provide practical experience and clinical application of the basic practice proficiencies of the counseling psychologist, to include, interviewing, assessments, diagnosis and treatment planning, research and behavioral ethics. The Residency was conducted at clinical sites located throughout the United States. Residency provided doctoral students opportunities to discuss case treatment within group dynamics and group cohesion. Residency goal for doctoral students is to begin acculturation into the profession of counseling psychology; and provide clinical insight, discussion, and understanding of the various aspects and requirements of the year-in-residency.
Extended Seminar Lab: Focused on training students in the administration and scoring of individual tests of cognitive functioning. Primary goal of Extended Seminar Lab is the proper administration and scoring using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Adults 3rd ed. (WAIS-III).
Ethical Problems and Applications in Counseling: Review legal, ethical and professional standards of conduct for counseling psychologists, with particular emphasis on the 2002 APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.
Advanced Skills in Counseling Interventions: Learning to gather information through systematic inquiry prior to an intervention. Develop core counseling skills to help individuals, families, couples, and groups to progress toward mutually decided upon therapy goals.
