EXPERIENCE

4/07-Present, KaZaK Composites, Woburn, MA, Composites Engineer

-Overall helps company design, develop, manufacture, and market high-performance engineered composite for government and non-government applications with Phase I , Phase II SBIR projects. Focuses on with planning, formulation developments/improvements, and prototype fabrications for DOD, DOE, DOT.

-Has improved Press Molding process for various thermoset composites systems and thus increased the parts’ fabrication rates. Has achieved much greater throughput on injection pultrusion process via resin formulation changes.

-Resin system is Phenolic most of the time. At times, Vinyl Ester and Epoxy systems (including Prepreg) are used. Works with Pultrusion, Press Molding, VARTM, Vacuum Bagging processes.

-Works with Thermoplastics polyurethane (TPU) with lightweight fillers to reduce density in some applications.

-Manages junior engineers, calibrates company viscometers and ovens. A member of the company Safety Team.

-Uses unidirectional, biaxial, random E-glass, S-glass, and carbon fibers.

8/01-2/07, Cook Composites and Polymers (CCP), Kansas City, MO, Chemist/Composites Engineer

-Worked with Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR) for Closed Molding Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), Bulk Molding Compound (BMC), Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) and Open Molding Laminating processes.

-Performed SMC, BMC, RTM, Laminating, and Thermaclean cleaners’ experiments with newly developed/modified UPR for customers.

-Improved BMC, SMC techniques in order to produce greater amount of parts than before by eliminating scraps and introducing new compounding and pressing techniques.

-Made new UPR formulas and verified them with experiments.

-Blended UPR and checks QCs for customers. Also checked QCs from different plants’ UPR batches.

-Wrote and modified UPR blending formulas as needed.

9/99-7/01, Werner Company, Greenville, PA, R & D Composites Engineer

-Worked with various R & D Projects to improve pultrusion process (both resin injection and open bath processes) and at the same time, worked to reduce processing cost.

-Performed experiments with rovings, mats, pigments, fillers, lubricants, and other materials.

-Was responsible for viscosity, deflection, DSC test, compressive, tensile, flexural coupon tests, and experimental ladder assembly.

-Played a part of being able to run thicker extension ladder sections in the "Resin Injection" method, which were previously only able to be run in the "Open Bath format". This method accounted for significant resin savings throughout a full run and more importantly, positively impacted emmissions. This helped company continue to meet MACT (Maximum Achievable Control Technology) guidelines, as they were imposed at the time. These resulted higher processing speeds and significant material savings incorporated into the present mix.

1/99-8/99, NorthStar Polymers, Minneapolis, MN, R & D Polymer Chemist

-Worked with polyurethane formulation, studied pot life and gel time, and was responsible for tensile test, hardness test, rebound test, abrasion test.

7/98-01/99, Otomo Engineering Services, Winona, MN, Engineering Assistant

-Designed construction projects with AutoCAD and worked outside in projects locations.

Summers ‘94-’95, Geotek Inc, Stewartville, MN, Summer Worker

-Worked with open bath pultrusion process for two consecutive summers.
