PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
BUSINESS CONSULTING, 2010 – 2012
After leaving Cherne at end of year 2010 I moved to SW Missouri to work with my son in setting up his small business. It began with a viability assessment of several cities in SW Missouri / NW Arkansas before selecting a location in Neosho. It has taken some effort but the business is healthy and growing in an economic climate that is somewhat difficult on small business owners.
PROJECT EHS MANAGER, 2008 – 2010 (Laid-off at project completion)
CHERNE CONTRACTING CORP. (KIEWIT CONSTRUCTION), South Roxana, IL
As Project EHS Manager I was charged with overall responsibility and authority for the implementation of site Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and programs of unionized Cherne Contracting Corporation and the Coker and Refinery Expansion (CORE) Project Team. Cherne was one of four general industrial construction contractors working on the ConocoPhillips / Cenovus Energy, Inc. $3.6 billion expansion project along with Bechtel, Flour, and URS. Selected Accomplishments:
• Lowered TRIR to 0.21 in 2009, 0.00 in 2010, and celebrated 3MM work hours without DAW injury in March 2010. Cherne’s injury rates were significantly below the Refinery, the CORE Project average, Bechtel, Flour, and URS.
• Solidified safety relationships between CORE Management Team and Cherne Contracting by implementing client mandated EHS management systems without jeopardizing deeply engrained programs and procedures that has in the past led to the success of Cherne Contracting.
