EXPERIENCE
I’ve worked as a commercial director, a creative director, a Visual Effects
Supervisor, and an Art Director over the course of my career. My work has won
accolades at the Super Bowl, been nominated for an Academy award and helped
doctors visualize how the bodies' immune system can turn on itself. All my jobs
have had a common purpose of developing ideas and images to tell stories, to
entertain and to communicate.
I directed over one hundred award winning broadcast commercials for ILM and the
Orphanage including a Super Bowl spot for Budweiser that was rated one of the
top three shown during that Super Bowl.
More recently, as a creative director at EvLab, I created short movies that visualize
the complex interactions of how pharmaceuticals work within the body.
Before I began directing commercials, I spent several years working as a Visual
Effects Supervisor on both commercials and on several block buster features at
ILM, ESC and the Orphanage (Lost World, Matrix Revolutions). I still act as VFX
Supervisor on my own work and I freelance on other projects.
SKILLS
I oversee the development and execution for the shows I direct from beginning to end.
I pitch the job, oversee the storyboards, direct live action, supervise the edit and all post
production including effects and animation. I oversee the crew, review dailies and
troubleshoot both creative and technical issues.
My skills and capabilities range from high level concept development to being in the
trenches creating art work, drawing layouts, storyboards and doing some editing. I’ve
also worked extensively with outside venders to provide additional elements when
needed.
As a director I work closely with producers to budget, staff and schedule jobs. I design
and determine the best method for any required effects or animation. Throughout the
process I interface with the client to ensure they understand the process.

WORK HISTORY
In the early eighties, I began working in cel animation at Colossal Pictures where I
directed commercials before moving into what was then the new area of computer
animation. I became an art director and producer at SFPG, a post house that was in San
Francisco, to immerse myself in computer graphics.
I left SFPG to freelance as a VFX Supervisor working in commercials. I freelanced for a
few years at ILM before I began directing commercials at ILMCP. My work uses
combinations of live action, animation and special effects to create commercials that are
photo real fantasies for many of the largest brands.
I took a six month break from directing to be the Associate VFX Supervisor on Lost World
(Academy nominee for best visual effects) where I oversaw 100 shots under Steven
Spielberg and Dennis Muren.
After leaving ILM in 2002, I worked for two years at ESC on Matrix Revolutions and Matrix
Revisited as an Associate VFX Supervisor. I oversaw their miniature and pyro stage work
and later assisted in the integration of over 1500 elements into the movie.
I returned to commercials as both a director and VFX Supervisor through the Orphanage
from 2003 to 2008.
In 2009, I moved to the agency side as a creative director at EvLab where I directed
short CG movies for the pharmaceuticals industry. I provided feedback on scripts, art
direction, developed storyboards, designed the shows, oversaw the edit, mentored
younger artists and provided the day to day direction for the crew. Many of the movies
were delivered in stereo, anaglyph and polarized, and often had multiple deliverables for
the web, trade shows, and iPhones.
My most recent position was with Electronic Arts where I designed and lit scenes from
the new game: Sims3 Pets. The images will be used in print and on the web.
