Independent Marketing Alliance, Houston, Texas 2002 –2008

Independent Marketing Alliance (IMA) is an alliance of the largest independent foodservice distributors in the United States. IMA consists of members such as Shamrock, Reinhart, Maines, Nicholas and FSA. The mission of the alliance is to combine product volumes and conduct RFP’s within specific categories to create improved cost of goods. This also creates critical mass to implement a success private brand strategy.

Senior Director of Marketing and General Merchandising,

Responsible for overseeing the facilitation of the RFP procurement process which resulted in an annual eight million dollar savings in cost of goods to the IMA members. Conducted over 30 RFP’s per year across all food and non -food categories while developing strong product knowledge in each category.

Developed the original revenue generating marketing programs and processes which annually generated

Six million in additional revenues. Directed annual merchandising conferences and Top to Top executive events, further enhancing the marketing monies returned to the members.

Directed the development of 25 new private brands, working closely with ad agencies on ideation and design.

Recruited new members, growing trade sales from 4 billon dollars to 9 billion dollars over a five year period.

SYSCO CORPORATION Houston, TX 1990 to 2002,

SYSCO is Fortune 500 foodservice distributor with sales approaching 40 billion dollars, serving all segments of the foodservice industry.

Senior Director-Frozen Vegetables, Fruits and Potatoes

Responsible for sourcing over 800 million pounds annually of frozen vegetables, fruits and potatoes from numerous domestic and international suppliers. Issued annual supplier bookings and negotiated pricing. Worked closely with SYSCO Quality Assurance to approve new suppliers and ensure adherence to specifications. Development numerous new products resulting in millions of dollars in additional revenue.

Managed third party warehouse relationships and was responsible for the inventory management of this diverse product line, which consisted of hundreds of SKU’s of all quality levels.

Directed the sales of these products to over 70 Sysco Operating Companies. Traveled to each SYSCO operating company to conduct business reviews with the SYSCO operating company executives.

Wrote the programs and provided extensive product training to the SYSCO Marketing Associates

Complete P&L responsibilities for the department. Consistently was the highest profit producing department within the merchandising services group. Managed a staff of 22 people, overseeing all day to day activities. Implemented a creative system for eliminating a costly bill back process, annually generating eight million dollars in improved profitability.
