NIEL SCHARPHORN

JOB OBJECTIVE

To use my unique skills set to be a trusted and valued employee in a progressive and successful company.

WORK EXPERIENCE

**** ** **** ****** ****** Service

5757 Clyde Park Wyoming, MI #249-7410

Took this part time job to provide health insurance for my family. Began as an unloader, moved to sorting packages in the incorrect addresses area. Moved to supervisor when I decided to sell the catering business. I was a supervisor for more than 2 and a half years. I was part of a management team that has hit cost every day for several months in a row and earned regular bonuses. There were approximately 20 employees in my immediate work area. Left to expand our ebay business.

2003 to Present Ebay Power Seller “mtbyker bikes and parts”

This is an Ebay store that I operate for profit and to help support my mountain bike racing. I have nearly 3100 feedbacks with a 99.7% rating.

1991 to 2004 Scharphorn’s Banquets and Catering

Chef/Ownner of a very successful catering company. We served banquet style meals for as many as 750 people in one evening. In addition to the many weddings, graduations, holiday parties, reunions, ect. we did, we also operated a food service program for workers at factories such as Herman Miller, Autodie Corp. and HS Die and Engineering. Eventaully we sold the business to a fellow church member to be able to spend weekends with my family, and because we received a very generous offer.

1987-1992 Grand Rapids Hilton, Spinnaker Restaurant

Held multiple positions in my time working for the Hilton. Began as a line cook, became in charge of much of the prep work for the Spinnaker and for the banquet service, implementing numerous time saving techniques and procedures. Next I was promoted to Roundsman Chef, a position of responsibility during the days off for the Head Chef, the Souse Chef and the Banquet Chef’s days off, also assisted in all areas as needed. My final position was that of Banquet Chef, a position I took to quite naturally. I again was able to bring a new level of efficiency and organization to a challenging job, and do so without issue. I left to run my own banquet and catering business.

1983-1987 Scharphorns’ Restaurant

My Father bought this establishment when I was 18 years old and I worked in all manor of labor while we owned it. I was a cook, server, busboy, and also operated a cleaning service for our facility. I learned all aspects of running a family owned business. When my father sold the restaurant I was hired by the Grand Rapids Hilton and the Spinnaker Restaurant.

PERSONAL INTERESTS:

I am a father of two great children, Nicole Marie Scharphorn and Jordan James Scharphorn. My

Wife, Doreen Scharphorn, and I are both very proud parents indeed. My daughter is attending Grand Valley State University as a junior our son is a senior at Kenowa Hills High School. I have been very involved with my son’s athletics and was the youth basketball coach for he and his team mates from grades five through eight. I really enjoyed this time spent with Jordan and the other kids and parents. Our family volunteers for church activities and we were very involved in the school programs when our children were in elementary school.

My hobbies include most sports. I am a professional level mountain biker and I am in as good of physical condition as anyone in the state that is 41 years old. I regularly compete (and win!) against other elite mountain bikers nearly half my age. Two years ago I was second overall in state in the most prestigious racing series we have, the MMBA CPS series. I was an all-conference and honorable mention all-state football player in high school. I played most every sport in high school. Until about five years ago I raced off-road motorcycles and was multiple time state class champion. Athletics have taught me much; to be goal oriented, to think team first, and most importantly you get out of things what you put into them-in other words, hard work is the only true path to success.
