Veterinary Assistant

• Spot clean animal and public areas throughout the day.

• Feed the animals, including providing special diets as needed.

• Monitor the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and rapidly identify any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) and immediately report it to the supervisor or veterinary technician.

• Medicate animals as directed.

• Provide treatment and care for animals including vaccination, examination, performance of medical treatments (i.e. bandaging, nail clipping, ear cleaning etc.), and assist with euthanasia as needed.

• Monitor pre and post surgery animals for any difficulty with anesthesia.

• Perform laboratory tests.

• Maintain patient records by accurately recording treatments and test results on patient charts and other medical records.

• Admit and release animals in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner and inform the volunteers, staff, and the public of any pertinent medical information on the animal's care.
