THESIS PROJECT

Numerical Investigation of the Effects of Payload Motion on the Attitude Stability of a Spinning Spacecraft. (March 2010 – Present)

Modeled the spinning spacecraft as a cylinder with four movable rods hinged to it which act as the payloads and defined the dynamics of the selected model in Autolev.

Derived the equations of motion of the system using Kane’s method and used Matlab to simulate and study the effects of moving each of the attached rods on the overall motion of the spacecraft.

Generated strategies for moving the payloads in such a way as to cause desired motion of the spacecraft and achieve stable operation.

TEAM PROJECT

Search & Sort Robot – Goal was to design a robot that could track a path and pick objects. Team achieved 85% of design goal. (March 2010 – June 2010)

Built a fully autonomous robot using Lego Mindstorms NXT kit to track a path and pick up colored objects with the help of three sensors and three motors.

Infrared sensor kept the robot on a predefined path, sonar sensor was used to locate colored objects and touch sensor was used to activate the arm to grab and lift the object.

Robot dropped off the object at the platform of a sorting station which had a color sensor to sort the object placed on the platform to its respective bin.
