My name is Brendon Cooney, and by way of a job search website I have come across the posting
for a writing position in your company. The writing sample I have sent begins with a personal
experience of mine which took place less than a year ago, and since that time I have gained
significant interest in affordable home security systems.
I am a graduate of Merrimack College, and I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in
music. I have had quite a penchant for writing of all types since my middle school years. The
skills I have developed over nearly two decades of writing make me a valuable asset to your
company. From winning poetry contests to creating original films to keeping correspondence
with former Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, I have sought out all opportunities to sharpen my
writing abilities.
As a music minor I have learned the importance of listening, and not just hearing. I listen to the
sounds around me - be it music, conversation, or even the ambiance of the outdoors - and I am
connecting the sounds to my understanding of the world around me. My passion for the English
language pushes me to not only view reading, writing, and speaking as crucial expressions, but to
constantly search for the art and meaning in other’s words.
