• Supervising and management in R&D, engineering services, supply strategies and sourcing.

• Leading to research and develop the whole process of complex products from concept to mass production. Innovating and troubleshooting complex problems, providing optimum solutions.

• Expert in FEA, correlating with experiments/tryouts to assure accuracy and security of results.

• Specialty in all kinds of cold/hot forming from sheet/tube/bar and tooling: feasibility, formability, (deep) draw and subsequent operations, bending, multi-stage forming, trim optimum, whole progressive stamping/die, springback predication and compensation, hot stamping, hydro/rubber forming, spinning, rolling, extrusion, forging. Assuring >90-95% accuracy between simulations and actual tryouts for most steel sheets, guaranteeing 100% security of FEA results (excluding springback and special forming) avoiding failures/defects, eliminating die face rework.

• Special skills in Class A surface components, HSS/AHSS/Al/SS/Mg and special alloys parts.

• Enriched experience in materials, mechanics, machining and fabrication, forming/forging, molding, casting, welding, heat treatment, failure analysis, robust processes, die/mold/tooling.

• CATIA, UG NX, Solidworks, Ls-Dyna, Dynaform, AutoForm, Ansys, Hypermesh, Ms Office.

• ISO/TS, ASME/ASTM/ANSI/API, quality control, SPC, Six Sigma, PPAP and FMEA.

Professional History

Sr. FEA/Mechanical Engineer, BTM, Dallas, TX, USA, 06/2010–present

• Designing and FEA to develop best-of-class products/processes/capabilities, especially various forming (stamping, deep drawing, bending, rolling, spinning, extrusion, hydro/hot/rubber forming) and tooling; interacting with customers on products and new business development.

• Innovation and breakthrough of seamless superconducting RF cavities for particle accelerators.

• Cost-effective methods for rocket engine jackets/manifolds/channels and assembly (SpaceX).

• Well sealing (Plug & Abandonment, for Halliburton, etc.); shaped charges for oil/gas.

• Hot forming of axle beams for commercial trucks (including structure-thermal FEA, for Tata).

Engineering Manager, Kulkoni Precision Metals, Houston, TX, USA, 06/2008–01/2011

• Leading, planning, managing and implementing engineering services, evaluating and sourcing value-added products, vendor technical liaison and customer support, design and FEA.

• Value-added forged/cast/machined products for oil/gas/energy/automotive: API 8C elevator links, API 5D drill pipes, API 6A valves, rock reamers/bits; truck axles/spindles, turbo housing, etc.

Sr. R&D/FEA Engineer, Electromac Group, Windsor, ON, Canada, 10/2004–06/2008

• All FEA simulations, assured the accuracy and security, saved tremendous hours in costly die tryout. Completely eliminated die face repair/rework in tryouts for complex Class A components.

• Developing and optimizing stamping processes/tooling: the most difficult Class A components front/rear bumpers (with chrome plating/painting for luxury pickup trucks/SUVs, >95% bumper dies made by Electromac) for Chrysler, Ford, GM, Nissan, Toyota; various LSS/HSS/AHSS/Al/SS components for Dana, Flex_N_Gate, Magna, SKD, Thyssen Krupp, Fabco.

• Hot stamping of AHSS (Martensite. Including structure-thermal FEA) A/B pillars, beams, etc.

CAD/FEA Engineer, Canadian Engineering & Tool, Windsor, ON, Canada, 03/2002–10/2004

• All FEA simulations; forming process and tooling development/optimization, 3D surface/solid design for heavy stamping dies, especially for various HSS/AHSS stamping parts.

CAD/FEA Engineer, Classic Tool & Die, Windsor, ON, Canada, 2001–03/2002

• Forming simulation and stamping die design for automotive components.

Mechanical R&D Engineer, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, 1998–2000

Working on Agile and Precision Stamping Program (NZS) an $18.7 million project sponsored by NIST/ATP and Auto Body Consortium for the next generation of stamping technologies.

• Developing forming experiments, FEA, in-process control/compensation system for stamping.

• Studies of formability, weld line movement/control of laser welded blanks.

Chief/Senior Engineer, Mfg. Tech. Division/Tech. Center/Forging Plant of Dongfeng Motor Corp., Shiyan, Hubei, China, 2000, 1992–1998, 1983–1989

(One of top three auto makers in China, makes vehicles from cars to heavy commercial trucks)

• Supervising and developing automotive components, various forming (stamping, precision forming, extrusion, forging, molding) projects from concepts to high volume production.

• Coordinating and providing technical supports for new products to production. Improving and optimizing existing processes/tooling, supporting and troubleshooting technical/production issues.

• Coordinating and evaluating supply base and sourcing for key forgings.

• In charge of developing precision forming technologies, including bevel/ring/sector gears. Programming using C to analyze, calculate and design different types of teeth curves/surfaces for 3D modeling, shapes of parts/dies/electrodes/molds, and CNC codes.

• Responsible for developing various manufacturing processes and tooling, i.e. crankshafts for Cummins 6B diesel engines designed crankshaft dies first time in company history, got huge success and met Cummins standards in first tryout. Innovative design for reusing dies of front axles in 12,000t forging line solved the over ten years’ unsolved problem, saved a lot of tooling cost.
