•Planned, designed and implemented microbiological food safety research projects: developed and validated testing methods and protocols for detection of food-borne pathogens (eg. Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria and Campylobacter spp.) from diverse food commodities (beef, poultry, vegetable, pets, feed) and from environmental samples.
•Optimized media formulations for immuno-diagnostic techniques (eg. lateral flow chromatography) and DNA based formats (eg. Genequence) for the identification and differentiation of food-borne pathogens; developed and evaluated neutraceuticals and biologics, efficacy studies of disinfectants and anti-microbial agents.
• Lead projects; coordinated objectives and control operation of the microbiology laboratory, review quality system policies and procedures, quality system manual (QSM) and ISO manuals, developed standard operating procedure (SOP), analytical procedures and preventive maintenance (PM), evaluated and interpreted experimental data; prepared manuscripts, summary, protocols and technical bulletins; presented data at seminars and conferences.

• Managed and supervised a diagnostic and research laboratory involving molecular, immunological, biochemical and serological techniques for viruses and bacteria; oversee compliance with GLPs and with federal and office of radiation, chemical and biological safety (ORCBS) policies and regulations.
• Devised, planned and undertook independent research involving molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis of vaccine viruses: identified and characterized virulence factors, contaminant or integrated foreign genetic material, specific genetic and antigenic markers of newly emerged variants, conducted cross protection studies, evaluated efficacy and safety of viral vaccines, selected novel candidate vaccine strains.
• Undertook specific research projects: pathogenesis and molecular characterization of viruses, including reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV), infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV), avian poxviruses (APV, and salmonella sp.
• Performed a wide range of immunoassay and molecular biology techniques (Real-Time PCR, multiplex PCR, Southern and Western blots, Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), 2-D electrophoresis, ELISA, agar gel precipitation test (AGPT), agar gel enzyme assay (AGEA) etc.
• Developed and validated diagnostic assays and molecular techniques for specific experiments and applications; prepared primary tissue cultures and established cell lines.

• Undertook research involving molecular characterization of anaerobic bacteria and their bacteriophages from the gastrointestinal tract and rumen.

• Performed Chromatographic, electron microscopic, pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), southern hybridization, molecular cloning, cDNA, nucleic acid probes.
Graduate Student (MS, PhD) 1985-1993
• Project involved identification and isolation of a novel bacteriophage, isolation of cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin degrading bacterial strains by Hungate anaerobic techniques.
• Confirmed new bacteriophage by transmission electron microscopy and agar overlay techniques.
• Designed, conducted in vitro fermentation assays, analyzed by-products by gas chromatographic techniques, analyzed data using statistical package, SAS.
• Served as a teaching assistant for several courses in microbiology, toxicology, nutrition and molecular biology.
• Undertook research project involving analysis of polypeptide-specific immune response against porcine herpes virus (PHV) by radio-immunoprecipitation.
• Maintained cell culture of crandeel rees feline kidney cell lines; tested balb c mice for antibodies by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA); purified virus by density gradient centrifugation.
• Performed Southern, Northern blots, agarose and gel electrophoresis.
