My initial position at Family Dollar was as a stock clerk. I was promoted within the first 8 months to assistant store manager. My duties expanded and I assisted the manager in store efficiency efforts and profitable operation. Together, we increased sales through promoting customer service and by protecting company assets and physical inventory. I instructed my staff of risk and liabilities during and after store hours. Cash management, safe bank deposits, re supplying inventory through timely ordering, receipt and processing of freight, merchandising schematics, plan-o-grams and recovery were most of my shared duties. I supervised, trained and mentored store staff upon direction by the manager and carried out these duties in her absence.

I had an opportunity for solo management for 6 weeks, due to the store manager’s illness. During that time, I hired well qualified and unfortunately also fired associates that were taking inventory from the company illegally. Also, I learned to initiate and assess my own management skills and the meaning of patience, leadership strategies and responsibilities.

Prior to obtaining this position of animal caretaker, I did volunteer work at the shelter to display my interests and enthusiasm for the work involved. My performance was commented upon as outstanding. Once hired my duties were as follows: prepared classified written reports on shelter cases using Microsoft office, SQL and Lotus notes, monitored the performance of community workers sentenced by the courts to perform work within the shelter, answered questions and provided information to the public regarding the impoundment cases. I wrote citations to citizen whose animals had become impounded due to animal code violations, and responsible for shelter communication efforts and product acquisitions. I also took a training class involving risk management which was designed to inform public safety employees of the procedures to follow in case of an unfortunate accident or natural disaster. I monitored and observed the work done by community service workers and in some cases, I was empowered to dismiss community service workers if issued instructions were not followed.
