Immunology and Serology

Comprehensive Job Description:

1. Officer in Charge of the department for PM and Night Shift. Ensures proper workflow in the area and delegates to any associate additional work as may be needed. Attends to any problem/concern that needs immediate attention or action.

2. Performs routine and specialized blood banking procedures including Type and Screen, Compatibility testing using Diacell card and Autovue machine. Antibody Identification, elution, warm autoadsorption and phenotyping, Coomb’s Test, Cold Agglutination Test, Antibody titer.

3. Do screening of potential donors and blood component preparation such as Leukoreduced Packed RBC, Platelet Rich Plasma, Platelet Concentrate, Saline Washed Packed RBC, Reconstituted Whole Blood, Cryoprecipitate and Cryosupernate.

4. Performs and documents instrument maintenance as required. Correctly identifies when an instrument is not functioning properly and performs basic troubleshooting of instrument in an acceptable manner.

5. Performs irradiation of blood components and filtered PRBC as requested.

6. Issue blood components for both in patients and surgical patients.

7. Properly identifies patient for extraction in procurement of blood sample for transfusion.

8. Inputs results in computerized laboratory information system, LIS and Healthcare System.

9. Teaches and Supervise Med. Tech interns/Externs. Performs other duties that may be assigned relative to the functional responsibilities of the Institute.

Immunology and Serology

1. Performs ANA Comprehensive Profile (ANA, Anti-Smith, Anti-RNP, Anti native DNA, anti SCL 70, AntiJO-1,C3) Hepatitis Profile Tests, Torch Profile, Tumor Markers (CA-125, CA 15-3, CEA, PSA,SCC, AFP) Hormones (TSH, T3,T4, FT4,FT3,B-HCG,ACTH, FSH, Estradiol and the likes)

2. Do CSF exams, CALAS, and CSF Bacterial Antigen Screening test.

3. Performs Blood Donor Screening tests (HIVp24, HIV Ag-Ab test, HBsAg, Anti-HCV, RPR)

4. Machines operated: AXZYM, IMMULITE 2000, VITROS, BIO-RAD.

Phlebotomist:

1. Performs blood extraction on in-patients and out-patients as per request. Proper and clear labelling of each specimen with the patient’s full name, room number, pin number and date of collection.

2. Accommodate and provide patients with detailed instructions on the procedure requested. Observes proper handling of specimen and safe disposal of used blood collection materials

3. Endorse specimen to designated sections for processing.
