R/e: Craigslist posting for manufacturing Controller

I am writing in response to your Craigslist posting. Attached is my resume for consideration. You will notice that I have several years experience in manufacturing accounting, along with additional leadership experience in employee benefits administration, operations, and corporate-wide strategic planning.

My responsibilities as controller included every aspect of financial management; budgeting, standard cost development, variance analysis, month end financials, year end financials, audit oversight, inventory control, IT oversight, employee benefit oversight, employee relations, banking relations, cash management, payroll, A/R, A/P, and union contract administration.

When our parent company, based in Ohio, closed its doors in late September 2008 I was earning $110,000 annually as COO of 4 divisions in the company.

After you look through my resume, give me a call and we can discuss my background and experience in more detail.

Thanks for reviewing my resume.

Best Regards,

Allan

Profile

I am a people-oriented professional with strong motivation - and a passion for business and financial processes. My strengths have been my ability to settle into an environment quickly, learn existing processes, and find ways to strengthen processes that need changed. Early in my career at Norwalk I was the Controller – and those skills put me in the center of coordinating continuous improvements initiatives, corporate-level strategy teams, union contract negotiation, self-funded worker’s comp committee Chair, and Chair of the employee benefits Board of Directors. As a leader, I rose from Controller to COO for Norwalk’s Tennessee operations. With a combination of people skills and strong understanding of ‘process’, I was able to help initiate change in this 150 employee organization.

Specialties

Standard Cost accounting, manufacturing leadership, operations, business analysis, team building, negotiations, employee benefits, AS400

Experience:

2008 to Present Business Development

I have been engaged with 2 projects since October 2008. From October 2008 through 2010 I was the key contact to the Trustee who was responsible for liquidating Norwalk’s assets (the 105 year old parent corporation filed bankruptcy in October 2008 which forced us to close our Tennessee Divisions). My responsibilities included coordinating the auction and sale of 4 facilities that had been under my control as COO, coordinating the sale of numerous pieces of machinery and equipment, and filing all federal, state, and local tax returns for the corporations. In addition, my wife owns and advertising agency business and, since 2008, I have helped her navigate the business through this recession. My areas of responsibility include: development of a strategic business model, development of a new market for the company, and coordination of all her tax filings for the local, state, and federal returns.

1993- 2008 Controller/Plant Manager/COO

Norwalk Furniture Corporation of Tennessee, Norwalk International Wood Products, LLC, Tennessee Wood Resources, LLC

I started my career at Norwalk as Assistant Controller. I quickly rose to the position of Controller, and from there was groomed to become COO. As the Controller I was responsible for all standard cost development, maintenance, and reporting, along with all the financial accounting responsibilities of assets, general ledger, month end and year end audits and reporting, tax returns, and office administration for the entire group of Tennessee business divisions. As Controller I was also a member of the Corporate-level Strategic Planning Committee, and directed Human Resources.

As Plant Manager I was responsible for all manufacturing operations of this 150 employee organization – along with developing the workforce and maintaining relations with the union.

I was the go-to person for process improvement initiatives. My ability to rally people behind a cause, along with my ability to quickly understand financial and manufacturing processes, gave me a lot of credibility to lead change.

1992 -1993 Controller

S&S Screw Machine

We relocated to Tennessee and I worked one year as corporate Controller for this 120 employee metal-working company. The family was retiring and they sought me out to help transition the business to new ownership.
