Global manufacturer and distributor of orthopedic devices.
Distribution Manager August 2001 – September 2011
Managed domestic distribution operations and global transportation logistics with a departmental operating budget of $12.8 M and a transportation budget of over $30M. Managed 250 employees at 3 facilities located in Vista, CA, Indianapolis, IN and Tijuana, MX. Served over 20,000 customers with more than 14,000 SKUs with sales volume of $1B.
• As part of the senior management group reconfigured the entire corporate distribution strategy to support company growth.
• Developed and implemented a variety of distribution strategies and transportation cost reductions within DJO’s multi sales channel organization delivering a minimum of 2.50% in transportation savings each year for 10 consecutive years.
• Introduced and supported the implementation of Kiva Systems, a robotic retrieval system for pick and pack operations; resulting in a $1.5M labor savings and an ROI of less than two years.
• Negotiated aggressive incentive based pricing agreements with UPS and other carriers achieving up to 84% discounts off carrier’s tariffs.
• Planned and opened a 65,000 square foot distribution center in Tijuana, Mexico.
• Planned and opened a 110,000 square foot distribution center in Plainfield, Indiana.
• Downsized a 65,000 square foot Vista, California distribution center.
• Established the use of associate score cards and team boards within the distribution environment to promote communication and direction of objectives.

• Established standards and measurements of the operation; safety, housekeeping, inventory accuracy, training guidelines, unit and line fill rates, order pick performances, and order accuracy.
• Created 5-S housekeeping standards.
• Established inventory control/cycle-count teams bringing inventory accuracy from an unknown measure to over 98% accuracy level.
• Developed order control process; established order control teams to better control over 3,500 orders received per day.
