Professional Summary

I have gained immense experience working as a human resource officer in the army (code 42A). My work in the army has exposed me to various conditions that have improved my skills in my discipline and given me an upper hand on how to work under pressure on a battlefield. Some of the duties I was tasked with as a Human resources officer in the army are assisting soldiers to develop their army careers. Under this job description, I provided promotion as well as future training information to my colleagues. In addition, my duties spanned providing personnel assistance and support regarding travel orders, transfers, and most importantly, salary details to all divisions in the service.

Education and Qualifications

Before joining the army, I pursued a CNA certificate and worked for 3 months in a private facility. I am 1 semester away from completing my associate degree in culinary art. 18 months ago, I completed my bachelor’s in Human Resource Management, and I just complete my master’s in Health Information Management (MS) a month ago.

Work Experience

My work as an HR specialist in the army equipped me with important skills that will come in handy as I continue with my professional journey. As stated above, I worked as an HR specialist in the army performing various responsibilities. I worked with soldiers who were qualified for promotions, upon which I arranged their promotions ceremonies while abiding by the chain of command. As part of my work, I handled any disciplinary cases and instances when a soldier lost rank. Furthermore, my work as HR personnel encompassed evaluating the career desires of personnel and qualifications for advanced assignments. Consequently, I prepared reassignments or any transfer requests. Below are some of the additional duties that I carried out:

Preparing requests for orders.

Processing reclassification or classification actions.

Reviewing and preparing personnel casualty documents.

Processing soldiers for retirement.

Processing applications for OCS or other types of training.

Initiating action for visas or passports.

Processing recommendations for decorations and awards.

Transfer personnel to the new duty station of home.

Hard and Soft Skills

During my tenure as an HR specialist in the military, I acquired several competencies and skills that I have carried to date. Some of the skills are mentioned below:

People skills: I developed the ability to communicate properly with different personnel in junior and senior positions.

Ability to follow orders: One of the most crucial skills I developed was the ability to obey orders given by my seniors and attention to detail when executing tasks.

Special aptitudes: I developed business administration skills and the ability to manage people of different ranks and qualifications effectively.

Career objectives

My stint as a Human resource professional in the military equipped me with essential skills that I will apply in my next professional phase. I intend to use my vast wealth of experience and skills to provide my services in the civilian world since most companies require HR personnel with experience in various HR facets such as payroll, personnel management, and records keeping.

Subsequently, I plan to enroll in the Partnership for Youth Success (PAYS) program to become eligible for civilian employment after my army service. My experience in the military will give me a vantage position in veteran-friendly organizations.

Honors and Awards

I received an employee of the year award during my military service as a Human Resource specialist.
