Duties included conducting cultural resource surveys, writing reports related to those surveys and providing training, guidance, and regulations pertaining to the protection and management of cultural resources within the Osage Reserve. Also dealt with NEPA regulations as a regular part of my duties. An additional part of the historical research conducted involved Indian Land Allotment records and some Osage genealogy research. The Osage Nation has one of the most active oil and gas reserves of any Native American group in the continental United States. My office processed approximately 3,800 well permits in the ten years I was there. This ranged from a low of around 100 permits the last year to over 800 annually between the years 2010 to 2013. In addition to the oil and gas lease activities also conducted archaeological investigations for the removal of restrictions (removal from Trust) of individual Osage Nation member owned real estate and other activities such as prescribed burns for weed control and cedar clearing. Trained and field supervised up to twelve cross trained Petroleum Engineering Technicians/Heritage Resource Technicians. The Osage Mineral Reserve covers the entirety of Osage County, Oklahoma. The county is the largest in t the state consisting of 1.5 million acres.
Responsibilities required the use of GPS equipment, digital cameras and to be familiar with ArcGIS mapping programs. Dealt with Native American Trust Records so had to have security clearance and training to use and safeguard those records. Reviewed the reports of consulting resource management firms and corresponded on a regular basis with Oklahoma State and Osage Nation cultural resource agencies. Was assigned the duties of the Lead Archaeologist at the GS-9 level ($18.97 per hour). The duties consisted of conducting historical archaeological investigations on the Chilkoot Trail from the "Scales" staging area to the U.S.,Canadian Border. This area was used between 1897 and 1899 as one of the major routes used by gold seekers heading to the Klondike gold fields. My teams job was to find, define and record as many features as possible connected to this historic event in this rugged area of southeastern Alaska. My team lived in wilderness conditions while on the job and we hiked sixteen miles into and out of the research area on each work rotation cycle. Also conducted other cultural research investigations as assigned. These additional assignments consisted of campground tent site locations, trail realignments and a wilderness bridge relocation site. Was responsible for two forest districts in western Arkansas. Our team stayed ahead of schedule for our expected work load. On Oct. 6, 2002 was detailed to the Sequoia Nation Forest in California to do fire rehab and hazard tree clearance work. Conducted 106 Monitoring on a motion picture production set that was filming on an archaeological site administered by the Utah BLM near Wendover, UT/NV. Conducted site recording by doing photography work and drawing exposed profiles of cultural levels inside a Desert Archaic cave site. Directed the covering of the site to protect it from the production's set construction. Interfaced with the Art Director, Construction Forman, Set Designer, Location Manager and the BLM representative as to what could be done and what precautions had to be taken. Was also on set during all of the filming at the site. Employment was that of a staff archaeologist. Baseline's Permit allows me to supervise field work in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming and eastern Nevada. Was a crew chief working at the excavation of 42DV2 a multi-component habitation site in the Salt Lake Valley. Major responsibilities were supervising the operations of the water screening apparatus and providing equipment support for five excavation crews. My crew's size was from four to eight people . During June 2000 excavated and supervised water screening at a Fremont site in Richfield, Utah. In July of 2000 was the Field Supervisor and a crew chief for a survey conducted for the U.S. Forest Service in Oregon. Headed a team of eight archaeologists and was responsible for completing the project report. From March to May of 2000 I participated in the excavation and scientific testing on 42SL230 at the Salt Lake International Airport. In November 1998 and continuing into February 2000, conducted inventory, testing, recording, mapping and rip trench monitoring on the Level 3 Fiber Optic Line from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas, Nevada. In October 1999 also helped with inventorying of two wildfire burn areas managed by the BLM in the West Desert of Utah. During the 1998 field season as a field supervisor organized and conducted seven inventories on the Salmon National Forest under contract No. RFQ IDAWY-30-98, and supervised the preparation of the reports for this contract. Additionally, supervised a crew doing survey on the Umatilla National Forest in Oregon, and participated in two prehistoric excavations in Utah.

Was hired by the BLM at the GS-9 level as a long term temporary archaeologist. Main responsibility and critical job element were to conduct a Class III inventory and record sites, for the 2400 acre, Pole Mountain Land Exchange.
Additionally was to reevaluate previously recorded sites, conduct testing and make recommendations for National Register eligibility. The final aspect of the appointment was to complete a written report detailing the cultural resource work and recommendations for allowing or rejecting the land exchange. Also split time with the Resource Area Lead Archaeologist, Gray DeMarce, to conduct smaller Class III inventories for different resource area branches, such as range conservation, wildlife, and minerals . Most of these sites I later mapped on drawing that became part of the final plan reports for these projects .
