WORK EXPERIENCE

Comcast

DevOps Engineer July 2023 Present

Project 2 RDK Developer experience (DevX) tools squad: Jan 2024 - Present

Helped in Development of Lightspeed an internal AngularJS and Fast API application for RDK platform needs, as part of the RDK DevX tools squad from project inception.

Initially, I was mainly involved in building the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment process for this tool.

Concourse was our pipeline tool, used to build and deploy docker container images of our application onto AWS ECS.

Utilized Atlas hub as docker image repository, VinylDNS for private zone hoisting, terraform to define ECS task and task definition to fully deploy the image.

Our infrastructure involved GitHub repository, a concourse pipeline, ECS Fargate cluster, application load balancer, slack webhook for deployment notifications, terraform for deployment, S3 for terraform state storage, AWS QuickSight for various dashboards usage, DynamoDB and SharePoint for all data storage options, and finally elastic Kibana for application metrics and logging.

As part of this team, I was also involved in mitigations run for every RDK device, where we try to connect to these devices and run shell scripts that bring these devices out of issue state. This scripting majorly involved python Rest Api scripting to hit devices in an asynchronous fashion to scale up to hundreds and thousands at a time.

At a certain time, I was involved in building jump hosts that help engineers to be able to connect customer/testing devices to run various activities from testing to running scripts on them. This includes all infrastructure needs from building an Ubuntu ec2 instance to installing all the required modules and packages available both publicly and privately as some of these were comcast proprietary tools. This also includes user access management and privilege control.

Our mitigations mainly utilized Web PA service, to successfully connect to devices and execute TR-181 parameters. One such option was reverse SSH where we would be able to exec into RDK devices.

Comcast had a tenant security framework which allowed communication between different on-prem to cloud based application to establish inter-connectivity. This helps application to use each other s Rest APIs. I handled all such infrastructure activity for my team. This required tracking down the owners of such tenants, base knowledge of their infrastructure and raising access policies that would suit our needs.

As part of Lightspeeds visibility initiative, I was involved in building various QuickSight dashboards to be hosted on the application once built. This required aggregating datasets obtained from various sources like DynamoDB every day and storing it on s3 for QuickSight to pick up on a time-based refresh for various Dashboards.

One of my major tasks was an xPKI certificate injection mitigation run over several months on over 120k XB8 broadband devices that had a faulty manufacturing. Built a script using some internal tools to connect to these devices, copy over a binary file and run the mitigation that injects the cert. Required to build an automation at a later stage once a few test runs were successful and no issues were observed on these devices post injection.

Used an internal workflow platform (Gears) that helps us integrate various tools and scripts in various languages to build sev mitigation run on million devices in 30 mins scale. I was involved in building various such mitigation flows that affect various RDK devices (Broadband, Video and Camera).

Exposed to IAM role management and AWS cli command line to tool to interact with various AWS resources.

The team used scrum methodologies to maintain goals in a sprint-based process that included, sprint planning, backlog grooming and scrum calls and demo.
