Event & Resource Coordinator for 2 low-income HUD housing communities. Task was to provide resources and advocate for residents in need of a wide variety of support through events, workshops, speaker, and one-on-one consultation. The breadth of topics covered financial assistance, food support, transportation, employment, child care, SSI benefits, maintenance requests, health insurance, testing for common diseases, safety, and legal resources. Also acted as a resident advocate with apartment management and maintenance. In 2 years and 1 month, coordinated and invited in approximately 118 events and workshops, developed a spreadsheet of over 40 community partners, comprised of healthcare, childcare, schools, churches, and community organizations, as well as entertainment and willing volunteers. Resident attendance at events grew and the community coalesced around befriending and supporting each other. Friendships bloomed and trust in property management was developed. The negative and adversarial attitudes were gradually melting in favor of understanding of human behavior and support of their neighbors. Residents noticed and commented on the positive changes they felt in the communities.
Event Coordinator for Build-to-Rent homes community, Task was to provide 2 events per month to build camaraderie among residents and develop a cohesive neighborhood feel with the goal of resident loyalty and contract renewals. Able to develop and execute 12 events that created a buzz in the area, brought out new residents each time, introduced neighbors to each other, and created a warm feeling about life in the community. Renewals stabilized and neighbors commented on the enthusiasm and fun the events brought to the area.
