History and Highlights

Consultant – 2018 to Present. Providing expert advice to domestic trailer and Intermodal repair contractors for the purpose of identifying latent deficiencies in their business models. Expert witness, Class-1 Railroad lawsuit.

President / CEO - California Fleet Services, Inc. - 2009 to 2018. Privately-owned CFS operated a fleet of service trucks, each fully equipped to provide trailer, chassis, and container repair service.

Founded CFS and grew business from the ground up to a $6.4M operation. Led all aspects of asset acquisition, recruited, hired, and trained 25-person team in maintenance, general management, and customer service operations. Negotiated contracts, held full P&L, and spearheaded the sales & marketing programs.

Drove marketing efforts and RFP development, winning separate three-year service contracts with American President Lines and the Union Pacific Railroad.

Implemented innovative incentive policy for service employees, producing 24% plus-up on EBITDA.

Significantly improved equipment turn times and solidified relationships with high-profile accounts.

Recruited commission-based sales leader to secure new maintenance and repair service contracts.

Orderly wind-down of the company when Landlord displaced the CFS 6-bay repair shop on 8 acres to make way for a 260+acre City of Lathrop Commerce Center.

Marine Terminal Corporation Holdings (MTCH) - 1990 to 2008. Stevedoring operations, terminal management and services, technical customer and cargo support, and affiliated transportation industry services for the shipping community. Offers multi-modal terminal services and on-site customs and bonded warehousing facilities to ocean carriers, railroads, intermodal, and other logistics service providers.

President / CEO - MGM Transportation Services - 2000 to 2008. Wholly-owned subsidiary of MTCH, providing container, chassis, and trailer maintenance services for truck, rail, marine, and Intermodal equipment.

Led all planning, due diligence and negotiations for MTCH acquisition of MGM and was selected as MGM’s senior executive leader, headquartered in Chicago, IL.

Devised strategic business plans for sales and service operations throughout California, Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, North Carolina, and Florida.

Grew $22M acquisition value to $36M with 386 multi-disciplinary staff and employees.

Captured $9M service agreement with Pacer Stacktrain with aggressive development initiative.

President / COO - Deep Water Port Services - 1998 to 2000. MTCH subsidiary providing port facility and equipment maintenance, logistics, and terminal security services.

Launched business operations for multiple business entities, including Terminal Maintenance Corporation, Long Beach Warehouse, All-Lift Company, and South Bay Terminals, LLC, to offer niche branding in each specialty area. Full P&L for each business unit.

Forged strategic partnership with Asia-based shipping company to launch South Bay Terminals, LLC, opening, filling, and operating two warehouses totaling 290K square feet.

Optimized pricing models through detailed market and competitive rate structure analysis.

Vice President—Southern California Operations – 1996 to 1998. Promoted to lead $178M P&L with 80 managers, more than 1,000 longshoreman, 120 crane operators, 67 foremen, and 100+ planning and support staff across 16 operating sites.

Transformed organizational infrastructure, boosting vessel production to 7% above competitive market levels.

Strengthened safety programs to attain lowest OSHA incident rate with 2.2M man-hours compiled in 1997 alone, earning #1 ranking for PMA Safety Awards.

General Manager - Evergreen Container Terminals & Yang Ming Terminal - 1992 to 1996. Managed all facets of operations for two major Los Angeles container terminals, leveraging Kaizen Continuous Improvement and Quality principles to streamline operations, increase production, and improve overall team performance.

Orchestrated 1-year 8.8 percentage point EBIT increase, a 55% improvement, by enhancing vessel productivity 42%.

Revamped vessel traffic and gate patterns to reduce gate turn times more than 70%.

Assistant GM - Hanjin Container Terminal – 1990 to 1992. Turned around operations, achieving 25% productivity improvement in terminal container moves per crane.

American President Lines - 1986 to 1990. Major global container transportation and shipping company.

Joined APL as Terminal Manager for the Port of Los Angeles and soon promoted to Regional Quality Manager for the West Coast. Held $70M budget responsibility with more than 200 employees.

Earlier, employed by United States Lines, an American transatlantic shipping company. Steadily promoted from Maintenance Manager in Oakland, CA to Director of Maintenance for USL’s Far East Division in Hong Kong, then to Director of Maintenance for the east Coast Division, and ultimately to Port Manager in Norfolk, VA. As Port Manager, managed 56 employees with budget responsibility exceeding $20M.
