In this field as a Direct Support Professional, we are there to promote independence towards the individuals as well as assist them with their everyday needs. I have learned that patience is the key in this field and building trust is important. The hardest part of the job is building that trust factor with the individuals, so they feel comfortable and safe which takes time. The most enjoyable part of being in this field is the love each individual give to you. I enjoy taking them on outings, doing crafts & activities making them laugh and making them feel secure by building a relationship.
