Contribute to the success of the $960 Million U.S. Veteran Administration’s North Texas Health Care System by fulfilling Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist duties from the Dallas Veteran Administration Medical Center. The NTX health system has 16 locales, 1.4 million outpatients a year. My role with the Dallas VA Med Center has moved from solely being a CTRS and Certified Dementia Practitioner for military veteran patients to applying recreational therapeutic tactics to the medical staff, visiting healthcare providers, and licensed personnel. Wellness Trainings and Conflict Resolution Trainings have been my core duties for the past 36 months. As a QUALIFIED PROVIDER OF RECREATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES, I assist clients with developing conflict resolution skills, daily living skills, and new behaviors to handle stress, anxiety, and disappointment. As a result, 95% of patient clients have improved well-being and coping skills.

Launched career with the Dallas VA Medical Center after being recruited and hired. Became a part of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team which consisted of 30 Medical Doctors, Nurses, Licensed Social Service Workers, Military Ombudspersons, and myself as CRTS Recreational Therapist. Conducted med rounds on four (4) different floors, each had four (4) different hallways as follows:
INPATIENT CLIENTS: 50 to 80 patients per day per hallway, up to 300 patients per day. Additionally handled 12 beds in MICU, 12 beds in SICU, 12 beds in TICU, 12 beds in CCU which are the medical, surgical, trauma, and critical intensive care units of the hospital. Further handled patients in the Community Nursing Center.
OUTPATIENT CLIENTS: Provided recreational therapy to 24 patients a day, 120 patients a week in Oncology. Further provided services to patients, caregivers, and families of the Outpatient Day Treatment from 6AM to 10AM, as well as 120 Dialysis Patients each week
MENTAL HEALTH LOCKDOWN WARD: Handled 8 to 12 patients in the lockdown unit on a bi- weekly basis. Recreational therapist services included Group Socialization, Wheelchair Tai Chi, Wheelchair Yoga, Wee Bowling, and Deep Breathing Techniques.
SUBSTANCE DETOX AND PREVENTION INPATIENT PROGRAM handled bi-weekly

Feliciana Forensic Facility, Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System Contributed to the success of the State of Louisiana’s Department of Health program by focusing on the mentally deranged who were housed in the maximum-security ward of the Feliciana Forensic Facility. Per patient spending was $50,000 to $150,000 per year per patient in its psychiatric ward.
Patient load was up to 160 men across two separate wards
Solely responsible for 100% of the patient load
Total budget ranged from $8 Million to $24 Million in state funds Used recreational therapeutic methods to ease the patients. Simultaneously assessed if the patients were mentally fit enough to stand jury trial for their heinous crimes.
