Carpenter's Apprenticeship, 09/1977 to 05/1980
Carpenter's Union – Fort Wayne, IN
I was one of 3 women hired to the carpenter's union. As in any apprenticeship, I learned all aspects of the carpentry industry. After the other 2 women dropped out in the 1st year, I remained. I had almost attained my journeyman license, when the union shifted the classes from 2 nights a weeks to all day Saturday. I was unable to find a sitter for my 4 year old and brand new baby. In my time with the union, I worked on a new section of the Fort Wayne water filtration plant, a new addition to the B. F. Goodrich plant, the downstairs of Glenbrook Mall an Sears store, and the reconstruction of the old downtown Holiday Inn.
Evidence and Crime Scene Technician, 09/1982 to 07/2006 Allen County Sheriff's Department – Room 102, Allen County Courthouse I started as a computer operator, adding criminal cases and accidents to the departments computer system. I then went to work in the Bureau of Identification as a fingerprint technician, both classifying and teaching fingerprinting to jailers.
I then was assigned as the department evidence technician. A few years later I was assigned to attend crime scenes. Was sent to crime scenes to collect and catalog evidence for the department, fingerprints, physical evidence, etc. I also cataloged evidence that was brought to the department by officers. After cataloging evidence, I packaged and relocated to a storage shelf, or safe, where it stayed until a court date or an owner was found. I was responsible for all money, found items, guns, rape kits and stolen items for the department. I was also responsible for all photographs taken by each officer of the department. At the time of the closing of a case, I met with evidence owners to return their belongings to them. If no owner was found in a case, the items were turned over to the county for auction of said property. Guest Services - Usher, 09/2000 to Current
