1.1. Urban Plan Preparation Experiences

A. Development Plan Preparation

Besides the multi-disciplinary skill, I have acquired while working with teams of different professions established for the development plan preparation of towns, I have exclusively produced and delivered plan research reports with the desired quality as a physical and environmental expert focusing on the following themes.

Physical and environmental conditions of the influencing hinterlands (rural areas) that have positive or adverse effects on the development of the town under planning which include the physiographic and/or natural features, natural resources base, climatic issues, drainage, etc.

Linkage and infrastructure of the influencing hinterlands/region that have an adverse or positive impact on the development of the town under planning.

Physical and environmental issues of the town under study/planning that includes natural features, climatic condition, natural resources, drainage, sanitation (solid waste and liquid waste), urban greenery and open spaces, industrial site selection, urban activities that have environmental pollution and hazards, etc.

Municipal and infrastructure services (abattoir, market, transport, religious services, roads, power supply, telecommunication, etc.) of the towns under study. In due course of the planning process and the study of these thematic areas, my responsibilities include preparation of checklists and questionnaires that helps to collect primary data, undertake public and stakeholder consultations and/or meetings to identify problems/primary data, collect data from secondary sources, organizing and analyzing the collected data and identify the problems, and proposing and/or recommend mitigating solution for the problems identified.

B. Integrated Development Plan Preparation

towns, I have produced and delivered plan research reports with the desired quality as a physical and environmental expert on the following thematic areas.

The physical and environmental issues of the town under study/planning that includes natural features, climatic condition, natural resources, sanitation (solid waste and liquid waste), urban greenery and open spaces, industrial site selection, urban activities that have environmental pollution effects and hazards, etc.

Urban Plan preparation, Implementation and Sanitation and Beautification Capacity Building, Training and Related Tasks I have been participated on technical and awareness creation capacity building trainings, the Bureau has provided for regional officials and professionals. As an expert, I am exclusively being engaged on the following tasks.

o Provided training for professionals from the regional urban planning units on: -

Theoretical and practical studies on regional/influence area physical and environmental studies;

Theoretical and practical studies on Urban physical and environmental studies and;

Urban Expansion area selection criteria.

o Provided on-the-job training for regional urban plan professionals on urban plan preparation.

o Coordinated awareness creation trainings on urban plan preparation and implementation, urban policy and strategies, and urban sanitation and beautification provided for more than 2000 mayors, managers, municipals experts, judges, prosecutors, administrators, regional urban planning unit officials and professionals that come from all regions and city administrations.

o Participated and coordinated the preparation of urban sector Climate Change Adaptation Program coordinated by the then Environmental Protection Authority/EPA/ of Ethiopia. o Worked on Addis Ababa City greenhouse gas emission inventory with national consultant (published document)

o Acquainted with multi-disciplinary experiences and skills while participating in different seminars, trainings, workshops, and meetings that are related to climate change, environment and development issues.

3. Consultancy Services Experience

Socio-economic consultant on the study of Infrastructure Demand and Supply Gap Analysis for Ethiopian Cities and Towns under Fasil Giorgi’s Consultants PLC for the Ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Construction

The project has used a theoretically-grounded protocol (organized in to twelve modules) approach through which qualitative data is made in a systematic manner, enabling integration of data sources and comparison across community cases. The protocols were organized in to twelve modules each providing a different perspective on the economic, social, cultural, environmental and political progress of the communities since 2017 and the cumulative impact of all the development interventions.

My specific responsibilities in this project among others included:

Conducting focus group discussions with groups of young men and adolescent boys;

Participating on de-briefing workshops and contributed ideas to strengthen the research;

Preparing reports in English from my fieldwork notes and;

Choosing a topic that needs further follow up.

Social services and other infrastructure needed based on standards and environmental conditions of the project area.

Supervisor/Research Assistant in BASIS (Broadening Access and Strengthening Market Input System) project on the 7th round; coordinated by Addis Ababa University, Institute of Development Research.

The major tasks I have been carrying out include:

o Develop and improve the questionnaires prepared with the other research assistants;

o Recruit and train six enumerators and execute their financial issues;

o Supervise and control the quality of data and its collection by verifying and cross-checking and;

o Encoding the collected data at office.

Enumerator in filling questionnaires on the 4th round Ethiopian rural Household Survey; coordinated by Addis Ababa University.
