VOLUNTEERISM

Spring City Launchpad Director of Communications 2013 Objective: A grassroots community led organization with a board comprised of myself, 3 engineers of different specialties & backgrounds, and non-board volunteers looking to create a community space comprised of tools, equipment, and creative opportunities for people of all ages and skillsets. My Role: Arrange board meetings, conduct community outreach, independent start to launch of our website, social & traditional media content generation, event planning, fundraising, real estate prospecting, virtual and activity on-site coordination. Noteworthy: There were numerous other “Makerspace” groups around the area and country that provided guidance

& feedback as well as the aforementioned volunteers who helped to create our logo and offered equipment and supplies to move the effort forward. However, as a 501C-3 organization of unpaid professionals with families and an enduring career growth mindset, the effort lost traction after a little under a year of devoted effort, hence experiencing a failure to launch. Highlights: Some of our gatherings included our highly successful inaugural public meeting (100+ in-person turnout) to ‘get to know what we’re trying to achieve,’ inclusive of Prezi presentations, guest speakers, and a lively Q&A session thereafter. Among other notable events was a small engine repair workshop, which was attended by both adolescents and adults to highlight the feasibility of small engine maintenance and the simple actions we can take to achieve sustainability. Cub Scouts Treasurer 2007 – 2008

Objective & Role: Maintain the accounts for our local group (not only the troop my child was in) by using QuickBooks to update the balances of 60+ scouts based on fundraising efforts, funds expended for extracurricular activities, and the group balance as a whole, which allowed us to create budgets for various campaigns and events, such as parade floats and booths for various community events. Noteworthy: I also volunteered with other parents in the organization to unload the truckloads of items sold during fundraising drives, separate them by scout member and family, and coordinate on-site collection in an organized and efficient manner (2006 – 2013). Special Olympics Assistant Ski & Soccer Coach 2001 – 2004 Objective: Teach dually diagnosed adolescents the value of sportsmanship, teamwork, and the joys of achievement.

My Role: Be a second set of eyes for the primary coach and an alternate voice of reason given the occasional unpredictability of neurodivergent persons who were also experiencing the transition to adulthood. Noteworthy: While keeping my resume specific to responsibilities in the field of administrative duties, it’s worth sharing that I worked for two different mental health facilities from 2001 to 2010, one of which I held the title of Assistant Unit Supervisor. Highlights: The primary coaches, additional assistant coaches, and I had the opportunity to watch our young athletes build self-confidence and flourish in ways that I believe were only possible because of the Special Olympics Organization and the outstanding team I worked with, who also chose to take on additional responsibilities that have created enduring bonds to this day.
