BNL Consulting – Feb, 2024 – Sept, 2024 – Sr Consultant / Mainframe Support for client US Dept. of Agriculture
Worked on four projects to improve USDA’s mainframe processing within an IDMS data base. This included researching changes needing to be made to data tables, changes to enhance their retirement processing, automate creation of a quarterly Excel spreadsheet formerly created manually, and testing of new forms developed for the US Postal Service’s new health benefits system.
CGI Technologies – Troy, AL – Sept. 2011 – July 2023 – Sr Consultant / Mainframe L2 Support for client Fannie Mae
Provided 24/7 production support for a large IDMS database system for client Fannie Mae. Responsibilities included quick resolution of any abends during nightly batch processing, Monday through Saturday nights; resolve inquiries regarding the system’s data and processes in its relationship with several server-based systems (these inquiries are requested by users through system tickets); and executed production data base modification processes. Supported COBOL with IDMS coding and VSAM, flat, and GDG files for processing.
Regularly coded changes using COBOL with IDMS as needed to correct any issues that arose during nightly batch processing. These changes were then executed through ad hoc jobs to perform the needed processing.
Was the lead L2 Production Support Analyst my entire tenure in this position. Trained and mentored different individuals as L2 Production Support Analysts. Had no primary backup the last 2 years.
Regularly researched and provided enhancement suggestions to improve nightly batch processing, several of which were input to reduce batch processing time. One reduced month end processing by 1 hours and nightly processing by 20 minutes.
Regularly monitored and updated data set disk space allocations to reduce risk of job abends and slow job processing. Freed up over 20,000 cylinders over the last few years.
Assisted online users with log in issues and any other system processing issues.
Global Computer Associates, Inc – Roanoke, VA – Sept. 2010 thru Dec. 2010 – Contract Programmer for client Norfolk & Southern Railroad
Coded IDMS application updates to interface with a file from an SAP system. This required creation and updates to online screens and programs. Followed through with due diligence and discovered several dialogs not included in initial update specifications list. Discovered and corrected 2 current coding bugs. Changes performed required changes per ADSO, MAPC, IDDM, and OLQ.
EXPERIENCE CONT.
Atlanta Journal & Constitution – Atlanta, GA – Nov. 1995 to Aug. 2009 – Programmer / Analyst; Senior Programmer / Analyst
Trained to support an in-house developed IDMS database system which included online order entry, scheduling, receiving, billing, and post processing statistics. This system processed the intricacies involved with product distribution of advertising pieces through the USPS mail system and newspaper insertion. Regularly used ADSO, MAPC, IDDM, and OLQ for project updates. Was the lead programmer of this system the last 7 years of employment.
Developed and supported batch processing jobs which included: COBOL programs, job and proc JCL using schedule id’s and symbolics, IBM utility programs, and VSAM, flat, and GDG file processing.
Regularly met with system process owners and users to review, update, and prioritize all online and batch processing changes required by regulations and/or requested by process owners.
Responsible for updating all documentation with production changes.
Provided 24/7 support for all production systems on a monthly rotational basis.
Securely processed bimonthly updates required for a 1.9 million address file from United States Postal Service CDS system. This file interfaced with a CICS system with inquiry capabilities and with the IDMS data base system.
Responsible for recognizing and implementing any system enhancements to better streamline batch and online processing for the systems under my responsibility.
Collaborated with a team of company and vendor personnel to successfully migrate processing from a mainframe IDMS data base system to an MS SQL based system from November 2007 to November 2008. This included planning, evaluating, and executing transition of all required processes and
reports. Was selected as primary support for all user related questions and change requests for the new system.
Selected as lead programmer for all list processing in 2001. This included printing mailing labels and/or creation of address files to be ink-jetted onto mail pieces.
Led the design, development, and implementation of an address standardization/postage calculation job process in 2004. This system input customer address files for mailing purposes and included incorporating Group1 Software’s address standardization and postage calculation products.
Supported 3 vendor products from Pitney Bowes’ Group1 Software which were executed during list processing of address files and were used for address standardization, postage calculation, and retrieval of geocode information through parm driven batch jobs.
EXPERIENCE CONT.
All systems supported required batch processing amongst which required using job and proc processing with JCL, IBM utilities, sort utilities, FILEAID, and VSAM processing using IDCAMS. All jobs required setup for processing through CA-7, many of which were executed with schedule id’s.
Provided merge/purge address file processing approximately 30 times per year upon request of vendors. This included input of vendors’ address files and at times processing with the aforementioned USPS CDS address file of metro-Atlanta. Vendor’s files were in Excel format and were FTP’d to a mainframe for processing. At times, the processed files were converted back to Excel format and returned to the vendor.
Securely processed the required monthly and/or quarterly database updates for the Group1 Software products, as well as periodic implementation of new software releases. Coordinated all required testing.
Supported the monthly processing of a medical publication mailing of approximately 75,000 pieces to individuals residing in Georgia. This database required an annual reload of addresses as well as monthly maintenance of addresses. This system employed both batch COBOL job processing and online CICS inquiry/updating capabilities.
The last six years of support and oversight of 6 systems was performed with minimal supervision and the total backing of my immediate supervisor.
Primary contact for logging, prioritizing, coding/delegating code changes, testing/reviewing testing, and implementing all requested/mandated changes for 7 different systems from 2002-2009.
