Research Experience
Project Experience
Survey was carried out to study the insect-pests encountered in different areas of Himachal Pradesh under protected environment
Major insect-pests observed were greenhouse whitefly, red spider mite, yellow mite, tomato russet mite, aphids, thrips, leaf miner, mealybug and spodoptera
Per cent incidence of these pests were worked out
Screening of varieties against yellow mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus in capsicum
Different insecticides/biopesticides has been evaluated under protected environment
Management strategy was executed in the form of IPM modules to manage these pests at farmers and university level
Weekly observations to record the incidence of insect-pests and diseases and provide them management technique at farmers polyhouse from each districts of Himachal Pradesh
To increase the awareness level of farmers, trainings were conducted at university
During Ph D :
Field Experience:
Research work was carried out at experimental farm in polyhouse in the department of entomology, CSKHPKV Palampur
Tomato crop (v. Avtar) was raised under protected environment with a bed size of 0.6x1.2 m during 2010-11 successfully for 7-9 months continuously
Design : RBD
Efficacy of thirteen insecticides/biopesticides were evaluated against greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum, red spider mite, Tetranychus ludeni and tomato russet mite, Aculpos lycopersici
Observations were recorded on the number of mite/ 3 leaves randomly selected and tagged plants while for greenhouse whitefly pre-treatment count of immature stages and adults were recorded from randomly selected 3 plants in each plot
Laboratory Experience:
To study the persistence toxicity of insecticides/biopesticides leaves from the sprayed and unsprayed plots were brought to the laboratory at 0, 1, 3, 7 and 15 days of spray
Artificial rearing of red spider mite, Tetranychus ludeni and greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum in insectory
Laboratory reared neonate and adults of mite and whitefly were released on the treated leaves and mortality were recorded after 24 and 72 hours
Intrinsic toxicity (LC50 and LC90) of different insecticides/biopesticides against greenhouse whitefly and mite has been determined
Vinegar fly (Drosophila melanogaster) was used for bioassays
Dissipation of spinosad and abamectin in tomato fruits was worked out at 0, 1, 3, 7 and 15 days of spray through bioassay/LCMSMS
Safety intervals for spinosad and abamectin in tomato has been determined
Good knowledge of handling the LCMSMS, GCMS and HPLC instruments for residue analysis
Good knowledge of rearing and handling the sucking pests particularly mite, whitefly and aphid
During M Sc
Field Experience
Foraging activity of bumble bees and honeybees on different vegetables and apple fruit crops were recorded in Solan and Shimla Distt. of Himachal Pradesh
Data recorded on various foraging parameters like number of bees/m2 area, time (sec.) spent/flower from 0600 to 1800 hour at two hours interval continuously for three days
Data of foraging behaviour of bumble bee was studied in apple during blooming period at Narkanda, Shimla District.
Three natural nests were located by continuous surveying the area by hearing the buzzing sounds in the forest and cultivated areas and diurnal activity of bumble bees at neat entrance was recorded from dawn to dusk Laboratory Experience
Domestication work was done in apiculture laboratory under controlled conditions in the Deptt. of Entomology and Apiculture, Nauni, Solan
Bumble bee queens were trapped from different flora in the morning and evening hours and kept in artificial special designed wooden boxes
For feeding sucrose solution in the ratio of 1:1 was given by dipping a swab of cotton and pollen collected by honeybees was given to the queen and developing colonies as a source of protein
Successful domestication of bumble bees were carried out for the first time in India (H.P).
Nest architecture of Bombus haemorrhoidalis was studied Other experience
Worked under Maxgrow Bio tech Limited, Ludhiana as Crop Technical Expert after M Sc in Himachal Pradesh for a year.
Training conducted and seminar delivered to the farmers regarding apple production and protection in Kullu, Shimla and Sirmour Distt.
Product promotion of Maxgrow Company conducted during field visit at different places of Himachal Pradesh.
Fully acclimatize with the apple production and protection technology as B Sc in horticulture and having own apple orchards.
Horticulture Rural Work Experience (HRWE) of one month each in all four agro-climatic zones of Himachal Pradesh.
Cultivation practices of most of the important fruit and vegetable crops.
Fully acclimatize with the rearing of whitefly and mite culture under laboratory conditions and testing the effect of different insecticidal properties for the pests under field as well as laboratory conditions
Expert in handling honey bee colonies.
Worked on successful bumble bee domestication under Master’s Research first time in the country.
Visited various reputed agricultural universities and institutes of South and North India.
