Biography
NZAMURAMBAHO Malliavin is a highly skilled and experienced coffee quality expert with over a decade of experience in the coffee industry, specializing in coffee grading, quality control, and sensory evaluation. He has a proven track record of working with various renowned organizations in Rwanda and beyond, contributing significantly to the enhancement of coffee quality standards and practices. Malliavin’s expertise in coffee quality management has earned him a reputation as a dedicated and meticulous professional with a deep understanding of the nuances of coffee flavors and aromas.
Malliavin began his career in the coffee industry from 1998 with the National Agricultural Export Board (NAEB), where he worked as a Quality Controller. In this role, he conducted thorough evaluations of green coffee samples, utilizing industry standard cupping protocols to assess key coffee attributes such as aroma, flavor, acidity, and aftertaste. His work was integral to maintaining the highest quality standards for coffee exports, and he provided valuable feedback to both suppliers and internal teams to drive continuous improvements in product quality.
As the ICP Manager at the Coffee Quality Institute in Rwanda, Malliavin took on a leadership role, overseeing quality control processes for local coffee producers. He worked closely with farmers to ensure their products met international coffee grading standards, providing essential training and feedback on quality improvement methods. His involvement in sensory evaluations and his ability to translate cupping data into actionable recommendations helped elevate the quality of Rwandan coffee on the global market.
Malliavin further expanded his expertise while working with LESTEQUOIA Company and San Francisco Bay Coffee in various coffee quality roles. At both companies, he was responsible for performing detailed cupping evaluations of green coffee and roasted batches, ensuring consistency and adherence to quality standards. Malliavin’s ability to analyze data, track quality trends, and collaborate effectively with procurement and roasting teams made him an invaluable asset to these organizations.
In addition to his work with major coffee companies, Malliavin has held the position of Coffee Quality Assurance Lead at GLOLEX in Rwanda, where he was responsible for ensuring that both incoming and outgoing coffee shipments met strict
quality control guidelines. His work at GLOLEX further reinforced his expertise in coffee quality management and sensory evaluation, allowing him to play a key role in the company’s reputation for producing high-quality coffee.
Malliavin holds a Q Grader Certification, QGrader Assistant Instructor from the Coffee Quality Institute(USA), and he is well-versed in SCA standards and cupping protocols, CQI Post Harvest Lecturer, SCA Standard Development Panel, Registered Instructor, ITC Certified Trainer of Market Access Tools. His extensive experience in coffee quality control, coupled with his strong analytical skills and deep passion for coffee, makes him an ideal candidate for roles that demand the highest level of expertise in coffee evaluation.
Malliavin is a highly skilled coffee professional with an extensive background in the coffee industry. From 2007 to 2016, Malliavin was also the Technical and Logistic Coordinator for the Rwanda Cup of Excellence, playing a key role in organizing and executing this prestigious event, which celebrates the best coffee produced in Rwanda.
