Professional Experience
CIGNA – Evernorth Services, Morris Plains, N.J. 07/17 – 04/25 Senior Software Developer on the Claims Processing Team
• Maintained and enhanced the Team’s REXX, Dialog Manager job creation panels. This system builds 20 custom claims processing jobs for each newly acquired vendor. The following code was created: sort cards, DB2 control cards, CA-7 Sasstrlr cards to demand jobs and scheduling documents. Additionally, jobs were created to building GDG bases and other files in Production and the Test regions. I enhanced this toolset which saves 8 hours of work for each new vendor and eliminated errors.
• Lead developer on project to convert the team’s 1500 FTP jobs to NDM. Utilized 6 new REXX execs to read over 1000 existing FTP cards which were then re-written as NDM commands during job execution. This approach eliminated manual re-coding of all the existing control cards and saved over 200 hours of work during the conversion project.
• Maintained and coded new COBOL batch and CICS, DB2 and VSAM programs for claim processing.
• Enhanced an existing CICS, program which only scrolled by the current date to also scroll by vendor id.
• Coded a new archive process which archived 500 million old records from multiple VSAM files.
• Provided excellent customer support and troubleshooting skills while supporting vendor testing jobs.
• Worked with on-shore and off-shore production support team members daily.
• Agile Scrum Master for 2-week Sprints, rotationally.
• Provided Disaster Recovery Testing and Support during assigned rotations. Verizon Wireless, Orangeburg, N.Y. 02/98 – 12/15
Senior Programmer Analyst on the Mainframe Based Billing System and Performance Tuning Team
• Coded new and modify existing mainframe COBOL, CICS, DB2 and VSAM programs to meet changing business needs. Wrote approach and technical design papers for new data warehouse and billing system projects. Assisted junior members of the team with technical issues during projects.
• Coded a critical job stream monitoring system which replaced a manual process. This system utilizes REXX execs, Syncsort and a CA-7 logs to monitor a critical job list. This report of jobs needed for the morning SLA resulted in improving tracking and accuracy of critical jobs. Report of the missing jobs (with their CA-7 queue status and missing requirements) can be emailed or text to a variety of easily modified distribution lists.
• Reduced hard coded parameters in JCL by over 85% during a major data file transmission vendor conversion project. This unique solution resulted in simpler coding requirements, which resulted in faster JCL coding and a reduction in errors.
• Produced a system which identified code in production that was out-of-sync with Endevor with 100% accuracy. This system which utilized CFI file transmissions, REXX execs, Comparex, smtp and JCL to identified JCL, procs, source, cntllib, copylibs, CA-7 drivers members which needed to be synced in Endevor.
• Extracted data from mainframe billing system for Data Warehouse systems.
• Coded a REXX exec which was used to expand a GDG file by 20 bytes that had 72 generations. This exec which ran in under 1 minute saved approximately 6 hours of manually renaming files. Kerry W. Graff page 2.
• Delivered reliable 24 x 7 on call support for assigned mainframe jobs which reduced down time and help our team achieve their SLA goals 100% each year.
• Identified and corrected long running mainframe batch jobs. Worked on either eliminating or tuning jobs and programs. Modified SQL or requested that DB2 indexes be modified to improve performance.
• Eliminated a long running batch COBOL program and replaced it with a series of Syncsort steps which reduced job runtime by 75%.
• Assisted DB2 DBA’s in table index optimization which resulted in faster program performance, some as much as 65%. Analyzed DB2 Explain reports to tune DB2 queries utilized in COBOL programs.
• Parsed and Generated XML data in COBOL applications according to business requirements.
• Wrote reports using mainframe SAS for a variety of business units.
• Coded reports for business users and to validate program results in EasyTrieve Plus. Education / Certifications / Training
