EXPERIENCE
The Market, Purchase, NY - Cashier
August 2023 - May 2025
The Market is an on-campus convenient store at SUNY Purchase. There, I assisted my manager with the maintenance of the store during the afternoons and evenings (cleaning, inventory and pulls, restocking, etc) as well as working the cash register. During work hours, it was my responsibility to reconcile the cash deposits and all the transactions that happened during my shift and to make sure the stock and merchandise were displayed appropriately before locking up the store. Originally, I was assigned to only work on Friday afternoons, and Saturday closings. Because of my work ethic, my manager not only gave me additional responsibilities and an extra weekly closing shift, but also a pay raise. While being a full time student the minimum I worked there was fourteen hours, with the maximum being around twenty-five hours a week.
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York, NY - Intern June 2024 - August 2024
At the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, I was an intern in the office of the Executive Director. My responsibilities included setting up meetings, filing expense reports, contacting vendors, and creating communication portals between the Executive Director and the heads of the different departments. This internship provided me with the skills needed to work in Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Calendar to appropriately create schedules, contact lists, and other documents that were used throughout the office. As part of my daily schedule, I was also assigned to work with the General Manager, the Company Manager, Executive Liaison to the Artistic Director and the Interim Artistic Director. I used any free time I had to study the roles of the various departments of the organization, and how their work aligned to accomplish the mission of the organization. This internship gave me a lot of insight into what a standard office work week might look like, and how important communication is in achieving the common goal across departments.
Duane Reade, New York, NY - Cashier
May 2023 - August 2023
At Duane Reade, my primary position was as a cashier. Occasionally, I would assist with restocking items, but most of my time would be spent either at the front counter where I would ring customers up, show people where items were in the store, encourage customers to join our rewards programs, or at the photo counter where I would take orders from the computer’s system and put together customer packages. Other tasks there involved opening locked items on the floor, taking passport photos, and handling packages for pick up, as well as helping with grocery deliveries. I usually worked at least twenty-eight hours a week.
Cinema De Lux, White Plains, NY - Concession Stand Worker February 2023 - March 2023
At the movie theater, I worked alternating shifts between the concession stand and the quick-service restaurant. My job included stocking, using the machine to make popcorn, stocking the snacks and drinks, working the register, and prepping food at the QSR including frying and making food. I worked eighteen hours a week.
Abundant Waters, New York, NY - Student Assistant
November 2018 - April 2019
As part of the community service component in my high school. I was a student assistant in charge of looking after kids at an after-school program. Some of the tasks included helping clean the tables and classrooms, watching over the students, tutoring them in both math and reading, taking them to other after-school classes, and coaching physical education games. I worked about nine hours each week
EDUCATION
SUNY at Purchase, Purchase, NY - Bachelor of Arts in Sociology August 2021 - May 2025
During my time at Purchase, I was a sociology student with minors in history and psychology. Oftentimes I was chosen to represent the sociology department for informational sessions and Accepted Students Day, and was a teaching assistant for three separate sociology courses (Sociology of Childhood, Junior Seminar, and Sociological Theory). There were multiple occasions where another teaching assistant and I would have to not only teach classes, but demonstrate our own work as examples for the lower grades. During my time at Purchase, I was also chosen to present my research in the 43rd Annual James Utter Natural and Social Sciences Research Symposium. I was also on the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement.
The Beacon School, New York, NY - High School Diploma September 2017 - June 2021
I was accepted into the Beacon School after a highly competitive screening process, that involved my attendance records, general grades, and state exams. I was also asked to submit a personal essay and have an interview with staff and senior students. At Beacon, I was only required to take the English Regents in which I got a 98%. For the rest of my high school examinations, I had to conduct science experiments to be judged, oral presentations and debates about history and political issues and essays. I credit Beacon and their rigorous Performance-Based Assessments for sharpening my presentation and writing skills.
