I am a young, female data enthusiast, currently undertaking applied statistics with ITatMasindeMuliroUniversityofScienceandTechnology.I am expected to graduate on December 2025.I am Motivated by the increasing role data shapes life and business decisions, I am a keen student eager to find a niche in data science through acquisition of knowledge and skills to support big data processing and management. I seek a position as a relationship officer so as to grow in a role that allows me to connect with people, build trust, and contribute meaningfully to client satisfaction. I am an ongoing student seeking an industrial attachment in a to allow me to gain skills in the following areas of data management.
Develop and implement data management plans, standard operating procedures
(SOPs) and standards.
Design and implement systems for data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
Manage data handling cycle to include;
o Data Storage
o Data retrieval
o Data archiving
Implement data security measures and protect sensitive information
Design and development of data collection tools such as questionnaires, case record forms (CRFs) and logs/trackers
Conduct data cleaning and query generation to users to identify and resolve errors in data.
Conduct appropriate data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights
Prepare and present data reports and visualizations in graphical, tabular and listing formats.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and requirements. Learn how to design systems and databases to capture data such as Ms Excel, ODK, MySQL.
Troubleshoot data-related issues and implement solutions for users and system Understand how datasystems work, their set-up, maintenance and security system Learn data protection procedures in research environment in compliance with data
protection Act and guidelines.
To learn how to work with multi-disciplinary teams to understand data needs To learn effective communication required to meet the data requirements of projects and teams, as well how to teach data policies and standards. Learn how data is processed and shared across users and collaborators. 1. Data management and analysis using R, STATA or SPSS 2. Data visualization using R-Studio Shiny App.
3. Database development
4. Generation of project Reports
5. Systems management for data Access granting
6. Data extraction
Kesho Kenya organization ( https://keshokenya.org/) is a civil society organization in Coastal areas of Kenya, headquartered at Kilifi whose main mission is to catalyze positive change in society through comprehensive education, accessible healthcare, and sustainable social development programs. The organizations thematic areas include education, community health, safeguarding, community empowerments amongst others. During my student attachment at the organization, I was tasked with the following roles and responsibilities;
Review of information in files from beneficiaries of Wasichana Wetu Wafaulu Project ( https://keshokenya.org/project?project=10 ) across Kilifi and Kwale counties for completeness and errors
Liaise with Field Officers to correct errors in paper files
Data entry of all beneficiary data in files
Achievement I was able to enter upto 2800 records of beneficiaries, reviewing errors in data entry to the satisfaction of project officers.
:
1. Data entry in Excel
2. Attention to detail
3. Communication
4. Audit trail and tracking
3: Data Management Attachment – Clinical Trials Department Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Programme),Kilifi, Kenya May 2025 – Present
Attached at KEMRI–Wellcome Trust Programme (Kilifi), a leading health research centre under KEMRI in partnership with global institutions like the Wellcome Trust and University of Oxford.
Conducts cutting-edge research in clinical trials, epidemiology, and biomedicine. Their vision is to be a Centre of excellence in research for human health. The main Aim is to improve health through research, innovation, and capacity building. Translates evidence into policy and builds local scientific capacity through training. I have been actively involved in:
1. Supporting clinical trial data management using Dacima, REDCap, and SQL for data entry, cleaning, and validation.
2. Assisting in the review and implementation of clinical trial protocols and contributing to case report form (CRF) design.
3. Using R, Shiny, and ShinyBoard to support data visualization, interactive reporting, and statistical summaries.
4. Ensuring data accuracy and completeness in compliance with GCP and KEMRI SOPs. 5. Collaborating with data managers, statisticians, and research teams to resolve data queries and generate quality reports.
Thus gaining practical experience in clinical research data workflows and applied statistical programming.
