Position was responsible for regulatory elements of the Blood Bank, and AABB and CAP requirements for Cellular Therapy Processing Laboratory. Duties also include auditing to ensure that the quality management plan is effective. Other responsibilities included preparing two transfusion service laboratories and three off-site transfusion centers for inspections, performing inspections, and reporting regulatory changes to management, and approving all of the Blood Bank, CTPL and ACT documents in the Document Control System, MCN. Work independently with medical staff, laboratory, and other departments to facilitate and implement efforts to maintain compliance and improve safety and quality.

Position was responsible for the operations of the transfusion services and phlebotomy departments. Duties included ensuring that Blood bank was compliant with CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, and FDA regulations. Oversaw 14 blood bank technologists, reviewed antibody work-ups, quality control and maintenance records, trained new staff, oversaw student internships. Other duties included preparing budgets, equipment and SOP validation, employee appraisals and working closely with laboratory Quality. Oversaw validation and implementation of a new automated blood bank analyzer and laboratory LIS (SOFT Bank) upgrade. For almost a year, I also over saw the phlebotomy staff which include the main hospital and about seven or eight off-site patient specimen collection centers

Sentara Bayside Hospital- Was responsible for daily operations of the transfusion services at SBH, reviewed antibody work-ups, responsible for transfusion services QC/QA, ensure that transfusion services is CAP and ABB compliant, handled CAP testing for the lab, coordinated competencies for employees four times a year, provided blood bank monthly statistics, trained new employees in transfusion services, made employee schedules for the entire clinical lab, served as charge tech for the entire clinical laboratory in the absence of lab manager. Other duties included supervising 10 transfusion services technologist, assisted in employee evaluations, provided supervised four week internships local universities' MT students, participated in hospital Root Cause Analysis team, also worked in chemistry, microbiology, and UA, member of the Joint Commission Tracer team for the Sentara system.
