SUPERVISOR EDUCATOR YMCA BEYOND THE BELL SEPTEMBER 2014 – JANUARY 2021

Some of the activities I was responsible for include involving guest speakers to speak with the students such as The Woodland Cultural Centre – Let’s Talk Science – Hamilton Conservatory of Arts. The day trips I planned included The Safety Village Zoo – Camp Chippewa – Veterans Park Picnic to name a few. I also created a fun Pokémon Go game for the students based on a points system, this was an interactive game that was a hit. Of course, all the students came away with a prize. I also supervised and managed 5 employees.
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT JAMIESON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2014 – JUNE 2015
My primary focus at Jamieson Elementary School was grades 1 through 4. I provided extra assistance to help students with assignments and reinforce learning concepts. I collaborated with co-workers, supervisors and parents to maintain a partnership type environment. This school year I had been working with a female student, age 7 with severe anger issues. Together we came up with an idea of writing or drawing her anger on paper, when she felt angry or upset, she would write or draw it out; we would talk through the process and together, throw out the piece of paper. This student came a long way in this school year, and she is someone I will never forget. Another male student and I, age 6 with the same issue except less aggressive, worked on visualizing his anger. Together we came up with an idea of him having his eyes closed and we would talk through his anger and visualize the feeling leaving his body. I like to think I had a positive outcome on these children’s lives and taught them skills they can use for the rest of their lives. I was also responsible for handling the “hot lunches” twice a month.
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT & OFFICE SUPPLY OLIVER M. SMITH ELEMENTTARY SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2009 – AUGUST 2014
I had many titles at Oliver M. Smith over my 5-year stay. The bulk of my years I worked as an Educational Assistant for grades ranging from Junior Kindergarten through grade 8. I was able to provide support for the classroom teachers and promoted classroom activities to enhance the emotional, academic and physical development of students. I supervised hand-on activities and participated in educational games. I was able to observe, record and report to the lead teacher any problems or concerns. Offered one on one assistance to students struggling with specific subjects and/or completing assignments. Chaperoned field trips and sporting events. I have developed a great rapport with students and staff in order to create a creative and encouraging atmosphere. I had hands on experience working with special needs students. I also have good working knowledge of the Maplewood program. I would help organize events for the school such as Christmas Concerts, Track & Field Days and I wasn’t afraid to dress up for holidays such as Halloween. I did many year-end speeches as well for grade 8 graduating classes. Whatever I was needed for I most certainly made myself available.
I also worked as an Office Administrative Supply for Oliver M. Smith. I would fill in for the secretary of the school on multiple occasions. In this role I had experience in attendance duties, handling petty cash for multiple purchases, typing up various letters, filing documents, answering the telephone, greeting parents and students and dealing with day-to-day issues. I am fluent in just about every computer program.
